I launched this “Media and Technology” blog last year as a more efficient way of sharing information about the subjects that AFI staff and other interested parties should know about in the expanding world of online media, social networking, nonprofit management, and related topics. The AFI “Media and Technology” blog is more a record of what I read and curate than a bona fide blog. I don’t post many original comments, don’t share my whereabouts, my opinions on the subjects I’m interested in.
Nonetheless, I’ve been pleased at the response our efforts have elicited — people seem to be interested in the stuff I read and share — and they learn new things.
On the Internet all things change. Just as this blog replaced PDF attachments of clips, so too has this platform been eclipsed by something new and cool — namely FriendFeed, a new web-based service that tracks an individual’s many different online activities in one place. My “curating” is easier with FriendFeed (coupled with social-bookmarking service del.icio.us). Same result, less work.
Effective immediately, the content of the tech blog will move to a new service called FriendFeed:
This site will contain the same content, as well as tags I’ve added and comments by those who choose to share. You can access the content by visiting the new address or by subscribing to its RSS feed. You may also want to set up your own FriendFeed account and subscribe to other feeds.
I’d like to give a tip of the hat to AFI’s CTO Michael Carter for suggesting the change and guiding me in this process, and for Josh Porro for his many hours spent on the blog. (He’s now released from that task.)
