TiVo Desktop Plus 2.6 now released - Digital Home
TiVo today announced its subscribers can now watch internet video on their televisions through an updated version of TiVo’s Desktop Plus PC software.
The new feature, which was first announced at January’s Consumer Electronics Show, lets users download Web videos and video podcasts to their computers for subsequent playback through their TiVo device.
Readers should note that the playback of internet is a two step process. First TiVo owners must download the content to their personal computer and then it must be copied to their DVR via a home network. Once copied to the TiVo, the content will appear in the TiVo’s Now Playing List alongside recorded broadcast and cable TV shows.
TiVo Desktop Plus 2.6 is available for a one-time fee of $24.95, and is a free upgrade to earlier versions. The Windows application can also convert TV shows recorded on a TiVo DVR for viewing on portable devices including iPod and Sony PlayStation Portable.
