Akamai Launches Hi-Def Web Video Portal - Impulse Digital Media

Akamai announced the launched of a showcase portal with a Flash-based electronic program guide for high-definition web videos from the BBC, NBA, MTV and others.

The “HDWeb” site is sponsored by Verizon Fios and will be up for two weeks, offering video files that may be downloaded and played back in Quicktime or Microsoft Media Player. Akamai is additionally working on support for Flash video players.

Competitor Limelight Networks recently announced the upcoming launch of an HD product on Fox.com. The site will stream the new seasons of “24″ and “Prison Break” in HD.
