Justina Walford writes a glowing commentary on writer-director Sean Byrne’s THE LOVED ONES. She picks up on what makes the Australian film more than a FRIDAY THE 13TH-style bloodbath, and delights in the twisted mind that made such a thing.

Nine of the films at this year’s Festival have been chosen to represent their countries as nominees for the 82nd Academy Awards.

One winner will receive a round-trip ticket from American Airlines to Los Angeles, an Audi chauffeur to the Roosevelt Hotel, and a chance to walk the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of EVERYBODY’S FINE.

As our gift to moviegoers, free tickets are available to all Festival movies, including a limited number of free tickets to evening Red Carpet Galas.

How Free Ticketing Works
You can order a maximum of 20 tickets across the seven days of scheduled films. There is a two ticket limit for each evening Red Carpet Gala.

Tickets can be ordered here at AFI.com, by phone at 1-866-AFI-FEST, or in person at the Festival Will Call desk in the Hollywood and Highland Center’s Mann Chinese 6 Theatre main lobby on the third level.

Pick up your tickets at the Will Call desk starting on October 26.

If tickets are no longer available to a screening, same-day free seats might still be obtained. Check the Will Call desk or go directly to the Rush Line one hour before the screening.

On October 20 the William Castle Film Collection debuts from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Included as a bonus feature, is SPINE TINGLER ! THE WILLIAM CASTLE STORY, the acclaimed documentary on William Castle by director Jeffrey Schwarz that won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 2007 AFI FEST.  You can order the set here from Amazon.

Kirk Jones’ EVERYBODY’S FINE will have its world premiere on Tuesday, November 3; plus the debut of the New Lights Competition
