AFI FEST Live! Day 9
AFI FEST DAILY NEWS, DAY 9
It’s the final day of AFI FEST, and we have a full slate of films at the American Film Market’s Laemmle Monica 4-Plex (1332 Second St. in Santa Monica).
Note: We’ve released more tickets! Reserve your tickets online and bring the printout confirmation to the theater.
New Lights Jury Award
In case you missed it, this year’s esteemed jury of the Festival’s New Lights category for first- and second-time filmmakers announced its awards on Thursday evening after the Closing Night Gala at a special ceremony in the Entertainment Weekly Lounge. And it chose two winners: Andrea Arnold (FISH TANK) and Javier Rebollo (WOMAN WITHOUT PIANO). Additionally, it awarded a special jury prize to Scandar Copti and Yaron Shani (AJAMI). Angela Bassett, who headed the jury, said of the films, “There were different subjects, different points of view.” But across the board, she found everything she saw “remarkable.”
Today’s Schedule

1:00 p.m. SWEETGRASS

Thank You!
Finally, it has been a whirlwind nine days of exciting, challenging, even life-transforming world cinema. We wish to thank our many venues, sponsors and patrons; our tireless volunteers and staff; and—most of all—you, for the enthusiasm, courtesy and patience you’ve shown during the Festival. This year’s program implemented many new ideas (not the least of which was free ticketing!), and it could not have been the resounding success it was without everyone’s cooperation.
AFI FEST was a gift to Los Angeles movie-goers, and its sounds and images will linger in our minds throughout the coming year.
