AFI FEST’s State of the Art Technology Showcase: Innovation and Immersive Storytelling, now in its third year as part of the festival, will feature a selection of 360-degree, VR and immersive short film experiences representing a cross-section of what’s currently possible in this new cinematic medium — and what’s yet to come.
The opening keynote is sponsored by Google Spotlight Stories and will be delivered at the AFI FEST Cinema Lounge in The Hollywood Roosevelt on November 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. by Anthony Batt, co-founder and executive vice-president of virtual reality creative studio and production company Wevr. Previously, Batt co-founded and served as the CEO of the social media network Buzznet and the digital-media publisher BUZZMedia, and as the president of Katalyst, Ashton Kutcher’s former digital media production company.
The Showcase will continue Saturday, November 12, through Sunday, November 13, throughout locations in The Hollywood Roosevelt, including the VIZIO Lounge, and will include additional panel discussions with leading artists, interactive installations and VR stations accessible to festival attendees for a hands-on experience of this latest technology. Admission to all panels and events is free for festival guests and pass holders.
Individual tickets for the Showcase are available on the festival’s mobile app and on AFI.com. Dolby, Google Spotlight Stories and VIZIO are sponsors of this year’s Showcase. More information about this year’s Showcase is here.
