TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

It’s really tough to name ONE movie as my all-time favorite, but Mockingbird consistently is in my Top Four, along with Field of Dreams, Gone with the Wind, and Out of Africa. Mockingbird has it all — honest, real writing . . . fine acting . . . wonderful music . . . it’s a story for all time, for all of us, about core values that inspire us to be our finest selves.

This movie it timeless, as all the movies on the list should be. Even though it is set in the Depression Era South, it still appropriate for today, for any part of the country. I’d say it is my favorite film of all time and one I can watch over and over and never tire of.

The acting is suberb… Gregory Peck’s best role. Brock Peters is wonderful as Tom Robinson. And even the children are great. Not stilted or over dramatic as can sometimes happen with child actors.

This movie should always be in the top 10 as far as I’m concerned.

These movies are true movies with true movie stars. I love old black and white movies where there was little or no action and the success of the movies depended on the skills of the actors. Take 12 Angry Men. It basically takes place in one room with 12 brilliant convincing actors. And though Gregory Peck was a beautiful man, he is at his greatest as Atticus Finch, the southern widower lawyer, raising his children and being a decent human being. Gloria Swanson is mad in Sunset Blvd. and I love it! Great movies and I love AFI for making these lists, even if I think GONE WITH THE WIND has always been grossly overrated!

I first saw this movie, and read the book, when I was in school. (many, many years ago…… don’t ask) It was being reshown in a little flea pit theatre and from that first viewing it became, not just one of my favourite movies, but my FAVOURITE movie.
The movie has no special effects, no scenes of gore or great violence, and no nudity, but is carried entirely on the performances of the actors. From Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch, to Brock Peters as Tom Robinson, the characters are believable and sincere.
The story is well told and powerful, even today. A true classic in every sense.
Don’t forget to look for Robert Duvall in his movie debut. Enjoy

There are so many wonderful movies, it is difficult to chose one. “To Kill a Mockingbird” says so much about us as Americans and allows us to reflect on the positive changes we have made as well as reminding us how far we still have to go.

Gregory Peck plays Atticus Finch, one of the most virtuous heros of literature and the screen of all time. The movie moved me as a kid to want to make a difference in my life whether I was going to be popular or not. It stirred up a sense of mercy and justice, both God-like qualitites. This movie does what the art form should do: teaches, inspires, entertains; moves you to become a better person, make a positive difference, leave a legacy.

You probably won’t find 4more disparate choices, but each one holds a place in my heart. Philadelphia Story is witty, charming, and above all, a funny story- Katharine Hepburn at her best. Young Frank-What can I say? Probably the most quotable comedy every. Mockingbird was my favorite book as a teen, and Atticus is the father we all dreamed of. LOTR continues to amaze me as a piece of epic filmmaking, with the emotions of the story never overwhelmed by special effects.

The story line is so powerful and ahead of its time. A white male attorney representing and believing in a black man wrongly accused of a crime at a point of time our culture was attempting to change but not quite ready to do so. A little girl’s perception of how other’s saw her father which changed from a child’s point of view to the respect of a community. When the majority of a town doesn’t see things the way they should, they rely on the things that make them comfortable.

The first time I saw To Kill a Mocking Bird I was in grade school. Even at a young age I got the movie and understood it’s meaning. As an adult I read the book and appreciated the fact that the movie stayed pretty true to the book. I loved Gregory Peck’s acting role.

I have seen so many movies over the years, but this is one that remains as my favorite movie. I see something new each time I see it and I’ve been watching it since I was 13 and now I’m well into my 40’s. I felt it deserved a higher rating than 25 on the top 100, but c’est la vie.

It’s just the most amazing movie. I can’t ever watch it too many times. Gregory Peck is the best actor ever and this was his best work. And the film itself was shot in a very personal style - it captured life in a southern town of the era with accuracy and poignancy. I just love it!

this is a real action hero.

It’s what motion pictures are all about. There are a lot of excellent movies, but this is the tops in my book. The cast is outstanding, the story is one everyone should know about. Every young person I’ve shown this movie to, truly liked it. Don’t be hesitant to show it to anyone. It is a film you can watch many times over and still love it.

It was the movie that inspired me as a child. I am a female, but I wanted to grow up and be like Atticus. I wanted to believe in his ideals. Amazing!!! It did not only have to do with race, but neighbors, family, citizenship, the less fortunate and misunderstood. What a world this would be if everyone had his wisdom.

I was so impressed by this movie when I saw it on the big screen with my mother and sisters that I saw it in color! Need I say more I believe all children should see this and many of our other great classics. My daughter has been raised to see and know all of the Hollywood Greats! As will my grand children.

If you have never seen this wonderful movie do it today…feel it…become part of it. Read the marvelous book, too! You won’t be sorry.

It has everything — emotion, social significance, great stars, children who are wonderful actors, suspense, compasion. Gregory Peck at his best. Lines I will always remember.

There are few films that come close to capturing the human spirit like To Kill a Mockingbird. For me, Gregory Peck gives one of the bravest and most honest performances as Harper Lee’s heroic Atticus Finch who stands against a small Alabama town. Everything about the film is simply beautiful. I can’t watch this stunning film without bawling my eyes out. The score, acting, direction, cinematography, and writing are all dead on. What an amazing, uplifting, flat-out wonderful, and life altering film.

The relationship that Atticus Finch has with Scout is so wonderful and beautiful. She is so comfortable with him. When Scout asks to see his watch and wants to know if he has anything for her, you can feel how happy she is with the thought of receiving the pearls and ring. Its a great moment. Every time I watch it I notice something new. Atticus is calm and strong and always does the right thing. He dosen’t have to think about what is the right thing to do he just knows and does it. His children are students of his great character. Harper Lee must be proud of such a great adaptation.

THE BEST PORTRAYAL OF THE DEEP SOUTH I’VE EVER SEEN. COMBINE THIS WITH A POWERFUL STORY AND A BRILLIANT CAST, IT BECOMES UNBEATABLE. I GREW UP IN SOUTH GEORGIA DURING THE 1950′S. THE DIALECTS WERE REAL AND TRUE. BUT IT ALSO SHOWED THAT MOST SOUTHERNERS WERE COMPASSIONATE TO THE PLIGHT OF THE NEGRO AND IT SHOWED THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE AVERAGE SOUTHERNER AND WHITE TRASH. GREGORY PECK IS ATTICUS FINCH. JEM SCOUT AND DILL WERE ALSO GREAT. THERE PRANKS BROUGHTBACK MANY PRECIOUS MEMEORIES OF MY GROWING UP YEARS. LASTLY BROCK PETERS WAS TERRIFIC.

It is simply a beautiful movie which will always withstand the test of time, or I should say it is a timeless lesson in humanity. Harper Lee, Gregory Peck et al…painted an absolute masterpiece.

Gregory Peck’s Attichus Finch is the father that we all wish we had: soft spoken, empathetic, respectful of all people regardless of age or color, and fearless in the pursuit of what he believes is right. When he sits down and speaks to Scout eye to eye, he elevates childhood. When he defends Tom Robinson, he promotes social justice. And, when he walks out of that courtroom, everyone rises out of respect for him–even his own children.

Wonderful movie that glorifies right over wrong. It shows the painful hypocrisy of evil (Tom’s mistake was feeling “sorry” for his pitiful accuser); and the quiet glory of integrity. (”Stand up. Your father is leaving”) Superb acting, writing and photography. Please don’t ever let them “remake” this movie although the theme is eternally significant, especially today.

I don’t know if it is my very favorite, but it’s way up there on my list. Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch inspires me to be the greatest father. He is one of the most righteous human beings to ever walk on the screen. He is a true hero who stands up to the obstacles, who, though fails in the end, manages to keep his dignity and his head up to what he believes, and in the process, serves as the perfect role model for his children.

I think it’s also important to state that this film may be too heavy on themes for young children to understand (it may also be dated for the younger generation of today), but I highly recommend them to watch it at some point down the road, when they are older to understand the wonderful gift To Kill a Mockingbird is.

A wonderful story about courage, integrity, race relations and Love. Gregory peck is surperb!

Magnificent film, and incredible acting, especially by Gregory Peck.

This is as close to a perfect movie as can be made. First, it is accessible to all people of all ages and types, even if it is B&W. Secondly, just about everything that makes movies great is contained within Mockingbird’s framework: suspense, drama, comedy, semi-cute children, legal matters, racism, justice, etc. Few other movies are as meaningful and necessary viewing today as when they were first made as Mockingbird is. Finally, Atticus Finch as played by Gregory Peck is, with little competition, the greatest everyday hero ever shown on screen. A gem in every way.

Based on a outstanding book, starring Gregory Peck, and scored with hauntingly beautiful music…for what more could any movie lover. I adore this movie so much, I named my pet terrier Scout (and, my daughter named her pet cat Scout).

I loved everything about this movie. It’s just great.

The story, based on the novel by Harper Lee, not only of small town racial tension and injustice, but also the relationship between an extraordinary father and his children.

My father was a small town district attorney whom everyone thought of as their own prosecutorial Atticus Finch because of his honesty, integrity, and character, and as his youngest daughter, I always warmly felt like Scout to his Atticus. That he also was as handsome, and as full of depth as Gregory Peck in his performance in this film, makes it a poignant experience every time I see it. Today, too, would have been my father’s 75th birthday, so it made it even more important to suggest this film in honor of him and those like him, who stand for the best in humanity.
