THE WIZARD OF OZ

When I was little I would wait all day in my pajamas for the movie to come on since it only was shown on tv once a year. Every life lesson is taught in the Wizard of Oz. From “theres no place like home” to “a heart is not judged by how much you love but how much you are loved by others”…. I enjoy it as much today as I did when i was growing up. I also had the pleasure of meeting 3 munchkins about 6 years ago and was over come with emotion meeting them!!!

The film for all ages. I grew up on this and it never ceases to make me happy. I see few films that still can have such an impact, particularly older films with today’s audiences. We are so in tune to technology that we often forget the story and characters.

A very advanced film for its time, especially in technical terms, THE WIZARD OF OZ embodies all of the elements of the hero’s journey in a story that celebrates the power of imagination and the quest for knowledge while reminding us that the values that support us in our quest begin at home.

The Munchkins were prophets, when they said to Judy Garland: “From now on you’ll be history, (…) You will be a bust in the Hall of Fame”.

The Munchkins were prophets, when they said Judy Garland: “From now on you’ll be history(…)You will be a bust in the Hall of Fame”.

This is the best movie ever because it has great songs, story and characters that we love. We learn that everything we seek could be right with us all along. There’s no place like home…and this movie. I think I’ve seen it 100 times!

It’s the freakin’ Wizard of Oz! :o) And Judy Garland is simply brilliant.

I have never tired of this movie. The story, the acting, the songs, the special effects are all first-rate. Even 68 years later, with all of the technology we have, I do not think this movie could be made to look any better.

Simplicity…. charm…. good and bad… memorable music… you can relate to ALL of the characters (everyone has a bit of Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, and yes, even Wicked Witch in us)… a beautiful journey… friendship… love….

No matter how many times I’ve seen it, the magic never fades.

For cinematography, I loved Trainspotting.

WHEN I FIRST SAW THE WIZARD OF OZ I WAS AFRAID THE WICKED WITCH WAS GOING TO FLY INTO MY BEDROOM WINDOW…AS I GOT OLDER I LEARNED TO LOVE THE MOVIE AND ALL OF THE CHARACTERS…ESPECIALLY JUDY GARLAND (DOROTHY) MY FAVORITE ACTRESS…EVEN THOUGH I OWN THE VIDEO…EVER TIME IT’S ON TV I STILL WATCH IT…

The film is timeless, and tells the age-old story of good vs. evil in a totally enchanting and beautiful way. In addition, the film has become legendary, partly due to Judy Garland in the starring role, but also due to the amazing color cinematography, special effects and gorgeous sets, which were a real feat when you consider the fact the film was made only 10 years after the first talking picture.

From the moment I saw it as a little girl, I fell in love with it. It is a true classic that you can watch time and time again and never tire of it’s lasting message of hope and love.

I saw it as a child and fell in love with Dorothy and her friends!!

The greatest fantasy film and musical (sorry, “Singin’ In The Rain”) Hollywood ever made.

So many great things about this film - too many to list here.

Judy Garland’s performance is so natural and effective it’s easy to underrate her. She holds the film together. She’s sheer perfection. As are all the other actors. Everyone is perfect in their roles. You couldn’t find a better cast film.

The music is still classic after all these years. The color, the sets, the amazing work of the directors (Victor Fleming & “King” Vidor - with an assist from George Cukor), the MGM “Studio System”, all came together to make a truly timeless film.

There’s a reason all of the images from this film are so iconic. People will be enjoying this film long after they’ve forgotten about more than half of the current top 100.

This movie was way before it’s time. The stoy line entertains the young and the old. It is a classic for all. Family’s get together every year to view it, like an event. Even if they own it on VHS or DVD.

It was the most creative movie I’ve ever seen. Great story, characters, song’s, choreography, sets. And when was the last time you’ve seen flying monkeys in a movie! It’s my all time favorite. I guess it makes me feel like a kid again!

It’s so well done I just still enjoy it to this day Love the music and Munchkins and Glinda the Good Witch

I was born in 1964. This movie was my favorite and scared the heck out of me. My child was born in 2000. she loves this movie and does not get scared by the flying monkeys.

It really boggles my mind, to see some of these choices. I ask you all, is there anyone who DOESNT like The Wizard of OZ? Sure, I have met people who dont like Citizen Kane or The Godfather (a few), even Gone With The Wind, but i have never heard anyone, i repeat anyone say, “I Hate The Wizard of OZ!” That is why i believe it deserves to really be in the #1 spot. I wonder the true accuracy of this rating when i see a film like Raging Bull ranked above many of the other great films. My top 5 picks would be #1 The Wizard of Oz, #2 Citizen Kane, #3 The Godfather, #4 Gone With The Wind #5 Singing In The Rain.
thanks for hearing me out everyone. :)

A truly fancyfull movie. I’m watching the new 100 List now, and I was struck how poignant when Liza Minnelli was speaking - she must have been thinking “Wow, That’s my Mom!”.
Halle Berry’s words struck such a chord in my mind too, about boundries and how this movie can help remove them, at least temporarily.
This is a terrific movie that can take you to another place, a simpler - less jangly, distracting place.

This movie is the classic story of the American Dream…we all go looking for something different than what we have, and in the end, all we needed to be was reminded that we need to stay true to ourselves and our upbringing. As Dorothy puts it, “if I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I won’t look any further than my own backyard. Because if it isn’t there, I never really lost it to begin with!”

Both are the best of classics and extraordinary masterpeices for their time!

Can there be anything more American than this classic? Or anything more Hollywood? Judy Garland’s legendary performance grows even better with age. My breath stops for a moment when she begins “Over the Rainbow.” The film is perfect….from the cast (each should have been nominated for an Oscar), to the beautiful Technicolor photography, the sets, the music, the special effects, the editing, and the screenplay. Dorothy is the all-American film heroine (and the ultimate everyman/woman) in her patriotic red, white, and blue. The Wizard of Oz never grows old, even if we do…but everytime we watch it we become innocent again. And that is the mark of a truly great movie.

Classic and jumpstarted Judy Garlands career

I’ve been a fan of Oz since I was 2, and now 17 years later Im still a fan of it and always will be, The Wizard Of Oz is the greatest film of all time.

I have loved this movie for as long as I can remember..as a matter of fact, I came home and put the dvd in tonight…it always seems to cheer me up just when I need it…just like Dorothy says, There’s No Place Like Home!

I think everyone grew up watching the yearly showing of the movie.
Now we can watch it anytime we want, but I still watch it when its on TV.
Brings back lots of wonderful memories.
The movie never loses its charm, every new generation discover OZ and it will always be kept alive.

This is one of THE best movies ever made and continues to bring joy to those who see it. It not only takes me to a land of magical fantasy with Munchkins, good and bad witches and, of course Dorothy and her friends, it also takes me back in time to when I was a little girl, waiting for it to come on television for that one showing a year. There are Oz festivals throughout the year taking place all over the world, celebrating this movie and Oz books written by L. Frank Baum and others. It is timeless, ageless, and those shoes! I finally got a pair of my own…there really IS no place like home!

It’s all about the shoes…there really IS not place like home!
