THE PIANIST

How could anyone come up with one favorite movie. I more than the above to go a top of the heap list. I love movies for many reasons. The Pianist is a emotionally powerful work with one of the great acting performances of all time.

American Beauty is funny, hypnotic, lyrical, beautifully photagraphed, great writing, acting………. Great Story telling. Hip.

Godfather I & II all of the above and insightful.

Bulworth: I movie I never tire of watching. It is hillarious……..

Thunder Road….. Robert Mitchum

The Hustler……. Again great cinematography, acting.
Solyaris: But if I had to pick my greatest movie it would probably be Solyaris. A beautiful film that is the most affective film I’ve seen that paints a picture of transcendence and creation.

Just one comment about a movie lot’s of people love and I send to the bottom of my list. Namely 12 Angry Men. Thought this movie was God awful. It does not put you in the room in the sense that you could make a decision on the fate of the person being judged. The evidence used to walk you to this jury’s conclusion was non-existent.

Roman Polanski, the genius.

I felt that this film had the most incredible sense of hope even though the life of Wladyszlaw Szpilman was terrible during the war. I didn’t learn until after I had seen the movie that Roman Polanski had been a Holocaust victim himself. Now, I love two of his other films, Rosemary’s Baby, and Chinatown which both have incredible casting, direction, and writing. But, I feel that The Pianist tops both of them as Roman Polanski’s greatest film ever. Adrein Brody, although I haven’t much liked the other films that he’s done after this one, I believe is an impressive actor, and definitely deserving of his Oscar. And, of course I felt that Roman deserved/needed the Oscar for his direction, as well as Ronald Harwoods screenplay. But, I felt that other aspects could have been awarded as well. The art direction and cinematography were excellent, as I felt they really helped to set the mood Polanski wanted to attain. Generally throughout the film you have dark greys, greens, and browns, but one in a while you find a brighter colour such as a red or yellow which gave me the sense of hope that Wladyszlaw would survive the war. After I watched the film I was speechless for about five minutes. I just couldn’t believe what I had seen. I believe this film is definitely worthy of being on AFI’s top 100. It is a wonder.

I don’t really know why Roman Polanski’s "The Pianist" became my favorite movie …

I don’t really know why Roman Polanski’s “The Pianist” became my favorite movie from the moment I first saw it. Perhaps it is its simplicity and profound humanity that touched my so much, as well as the fact that it was a personal story set in a historical background. But most of all, I think I was touched by Szpilman’s extraordinary relationship with music and the fact that his passion for music kept him alive. Adrien Brody’s performance is simply flawless -my all time favorite performance in a movie, really. I think “The Pianist” demonstrates that art can really affect life in the most simple and profound ways, help us progress, have open minds and hearts, and therefore be true human beings.
