REAR WINDOW

I would have to say Rear Window is my favorite movie. However, if asked what the best movie ever made was, I would say Virtigo. Jimmy Stewert and Grace Kelly are magnificent in RW. The set of the movie is incredible (the entire thing was shot on set). The layering of so many plots is genious. Hitchcock does not get enough credit for his use of symbolism, camera, and composition as in vertigo. While I do think Virtigo is a superior film, i dont think rear window is too far off. Another thing that makes this movie stand out is the incredible dialoge, especially between Kelly and Stewert. Just for the record Virtigo would be my #2 film of all time, followed by Casablanca, The Godfather, Citizen Kane. Also the design of virtigo’s tital’s and poster by Saul Bass is landmark design. I like it so much its part of a sleeve I have started which includes an audrey hepburn portrait and alfred hitchcock sillouette. I also plan on having a jimmy stewert portrait to finish it out.

Hitchcock and Stewart, looking at reality through a lens. Break out of claustrophobia, convince people what you saw is what happened, and face the consequences. Except for a few seconds, the camera moves only where Jeff’s wheelchair can go. Outstanding.

Rear Window is my favorite movie by my favorite director, starring my favorite male and female movie stars and my favorite character actress. If this isn’t enough, it’s the Hitchcock movie that most expertly blends all his strengths–suspense, comedy, romance–into one immensely entertaining package. My other favorite Hitchcocks–PSYCHO, VERTIGO, STRANGERS ON A TRAIN, NORTH BY NORTHWEST, and THE LADY VANISHES–all have some of those elements, but only REAR WINDOW gets them all in one movie. It’s the greatest romantic comedy ever filmed as well as the greatest suspense thriller. Talk about bang for your buck!

From this viewer’s perspective, it captures ALL the elements that made a Hitchcock film so great. Sharp writing, edge-of-your-seat suspense, a few dashes of black comedy, and a big mirror for the viewer to use to recognize him/herself in the characters contained within the film. Superb from satrt to finish.

This movie is what I think of when I think of Cary Grant. It may not be his best or his worst but it should be your favorite. This movie just says Cary Grant and wouldn’t be the same without Stella and Grace Kelly. This movei is the best moie ever…

Jimmy Stewart is a photographer that’s been injured and confined to a wheelchair with nothing left to do but stare out his rear window at his neighbors. He becomes obsessed with the man across the way and the disappearance of the man’s bedridden wife.

Hitchcock was a true master of suspense and this movie keeps me on the edge of my seat.

It had me on the edge of my seet.

It had me on the edge of my seet. I don’t remember why because I watch it a long time ago and it was the first movie I seen.
