PATTON

Pity room could not have been found for Patton my all time favourite movie and not just because it it is the story of Americas most famous if at times controversial General. The brilliant portayal by George C Scott must surely rank in my view with any performance by any actor in the history of cinema including Pacino and De Niro. However it was good to see that my other favourites Spartacus and 12 angry men were included I understand that this list as is every list cannot include every production and many other great movies have also been left out.

This movie has everything - great acting, it portrays the horrors of war; it deals with a military genius who had difficulty understanding ordinary humanity; and. most of all, it shows patriotism!

It should be in the top 100!

George C. Scott nails the character of George S. Patton! I have read a number of non-fiction books about Patton and/or that heavily involved Patton and Scott portrays Patton as I actually imagined him. The movie only marginally embellishes the actual events and the character development and interplay throughout the movie between Patton and Bradley (Karl Malden) is terrific. If it weren’t for the Godfather I and II, I wouldn’t have had a cause for a brief pause before choosing Patton as my favourite film. Oh yeah, and I like the background music.

One of the greatest movies ever made. Any list of Top 100 Movies that does not include Patton doesn’t have much credibility.

My father served with Patton and was in the US Army for 30 years. Patton was one of those people that show up every few generations when we need them to fight a war and then are put on a shelf and forgotten. Like Patton, I too believe in reincarnation and was told once by a major psychic that I died as a soldier in WWII. - George C. Scott did so many great acting jobs, but as I have been told by soldiers who were with Patton, he made you BELIEVE he was Patton ! Each time I see the movie I notice small things I didn’t see before.

I can’t believe it is not in the top 100. The scope of the movie, the acting was obviously great, the use of sound, for its time, to set you in the scene. To make you believe Patton was tracing steps he had taken in a former life. Outstanding visuals….all done w/o CGI…it is an epic.

George C. Scotts protrail of one of history’s greater-than-life generals was phenominal along with the movie’s overall grand canvas. Certainly it should rank among the top 100 and, for my money, was a more significant contribution to movie making than SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.

Greatest movie ever

One of my favorites; should certainly be in top 100.

Great CBS show and movie selection last night except you forgot those 2 great movies : Amadeus (best classical music movie) and Patton (second best WWII movie) this time around…

some of the best acting in history, more about a man than about war. so powerful and compelling, that opening monologue is more than enough to make even the most diehard liberal feel patriotic!

great performance by George C. Scott, epic proportions, greatest war epic ever.

PATTON

George C. Scott’s brillant portrayal of General George Patton’s remarkable leadership in WWII is a must see. This is best WWII movie ever made.

The impact that Patton had on WWII is very significant. Without his leadership, we could have all been speaking another language right now. This movie was so realistic and well acted that really nothing came close to it up until Saving Private Ryan. This was George C. Scott’s all time best performance that won him an oscar that year.
