Oscar Winner - Best Picture

it gets my vote also. when it first came out, i was married to an italian, who actually wanted to be in the “mob”. god. good thing we live in texas and not new york or it would probably have happened. i just love the movie. i like all the actors and the idea of coming to america, a place that was to be a new beginning for all the immigrants. many of the italian customs bring back precious memories to me of my beloved extended italian family. even though i am no longer in that family, i still love this movie and watch it every time it is on tv!

I was glad to hear that The Lord Of the Rings: The Fellow SHip of the Rings was among those on the new list, however, i think that the Return of the King should also be on the list, as it is easily the best of the trilogy and it displayed incredible directing, amazing visual imagery, and an excellent script.

no question this movie should be on the list

This movie has everything; from the most powerful love story of all time to dramatic special effects and good dialogue. They really need to make a re-release for the 10th anniversary.

It’s rare that every element that makes up a good movie — vivid characters, a compelling storyline, great cinematography, memorable music score, a redemptive conclusion — is contained in one movie. I haven’t even mentioned casting, which at the time introduced relatively unknown actors — DeNiro, Pacino, Duvall, etc — and mixed in a classic performance by an extremely well known Marlon Brando.

It’s my favorit movie, because my favorit actor Leonardo Dicaprio played in the film. The film was a romance film & I loved it!

Along with all those here I have to agree this should be on the top 100. The acting, casting, and directing were superb. Even if not on the list it will always be in my top 100.

Perhaps Da Greatest Movie Off all Time …. setting da trend for future mafia movies ,,, marlon brando portrayel of da fearless don vito corleone is top notch and still unparallel ,,, Godfather is da father of all movies in short ,,,

My respect for the AFI’s new 100 List is greatly diminished with the omission of this film. How can that be? I’m really rather angry about this.

Why is it that so many forget how groundbreaking this film was? After a century of persecution of Native Americans, both politically and cinematically, this film made them into human beings. If this was an “apology film,” so be it. They deserved one. In addition, the film ran over three hours long at a time when Hollywood didn’t think we’d sit that long, it contained subtitles which Hollywood believed was the kiss of death, and it was an example of a genre Hollywood decided was no longer viable. YET…. AFI’s voters exclude it! What is wrong with you?

The film is a cinematic marvel with perfect performances from Costner on down to an amazing Graham Greene. The cinematography, music, and art direction is some of the finest I have ever seen. I know of a young man — a Goodfellas fan — who didn’t want to see this film because of the anger so many Scorcese fans still have for this film. Yet, after he saw it, he had to agree it is a fine film and he chuckled when he admitted that he actually enjoyed it!

This is a work of art. And I’m sick to death of second-guessers, critics, and those that belittle it because it beat out Goodfellas. I’m sick of Costner critics who refuse to see the sure hand of direction here. For AFI to kick it off the list is like a last straw. The only other film of that year with box office legs that even competed with this film was Home Alone. This film deserves respect and AFI didn’t give it. Shame on you.

Ben Hur is one of my fave movies of all time. It’s so sad to hear about the movie drop down to 100 in the afi 10th anniversary. i think it should be in the top ten movies in 100 years 100 movies. The racing scene just very exciting.William Wyler created everything based on the accurate deatils of the bible. Everything was exquite. It’s the best movie of Charlton Heston. William Wyler one of the best directors in hollywood. He’s a master!

This movie have absolutely everything that a movie could ever have. It has great action, war scenes, amazing cinematography, good acting, love scenes, scary scenes, and comic relief. Its practically every genre you can think of, packed into a feature length film. This is probably the greatest book to movie trasition in Hollywoods history. It was a good four hours long, but it was completely worth it. the movie kept me entertained from begining to end, and it was,in my honest opinion, the greatest directorial achievement in American history. Kudos to Peter Jackson for making the greatest movie in the history of mankind.

Great love story Also the movie has a little bit of everything in it

Silence was the best movie I have ever seen! When I first saw it, it was on TV on a rainy night at midnight. I remember seeing Clarice walking to Hannibal’s cell and how he knew she was there and was just…waiting for her. I started to consider hannibal the smartest person to the world at the age of 14. I thoguht the relationship between them was romantic in a weird freaky kinda way. i loved picturing them together and when he kissed her in the sequel (even though Clarice didn’t kiss back, though i’ll bet she wanted to) i posetively MELTED!!! :)

It’s extremely witty, well written, well acted and romantic.

IT HAD EVERYTHING YOU WANT IN A MOVIE IT KEEPS YOUR INTEREST
IN THE WHOLE MOVE ALL THE CAST WAS GREAT

Titanic: best movie I’ve ever seen in my entire life. it’s a great movie, and as we all know the ship sinks at the end, the whole movie is very romantic because as you watch every little innocent scene between jack (leo dicaprio) and rose (kate winslet), you know time is ticking. i think it’s sad and romantic how jack tells rose to never let go of the promise to live her life at the very end and OMG i loooooove every little thing about this storyline. and leo dicaprio is very hot. and kate winslet is stunning as usual.
King Kong (2005): it has EVERYTHING!! suspense, romance, action, adventure, humor, etc. the special effects=woaaaahhh. i dont care how long the movie is, it’s just fabulous. naomi watts, adrien brody, and jack black were GREAT pretending they saw kong or a dinosaur, etc, when there was nothing actually there as they were filming. and yes, i did cry at the end.every time i watch it, i get teary eyed. i think naomi watts should have been nominated for an oscar for playing ann darrow. peter jackson made a GREAT remake.
Little Miss Sunshine: probably one of the best movies in 2006. it’s hilarious. i love how a little indie movie made it as a nominee for best picture at the oscars!!! :] its a spectacular movie of how a little girl from a dysfunctional family shows everyone what it really means to win. and you gotta love abigail breslin dancing to superfreak!!! lms has a great choice of actors and a wonderful screenplay!!!!!!!!! I love this movie! soo different, what other movie have you seen with a dysfunctional family pushing a yellow bus? GOTTA LOVE IT!!
What’s Eating Gilbert Grape: Leo DiCaprio blew me out of the water. He was that good as playing mentally challenged Arnie. Johnny Depp was great too. He was going through a really tough time and made me believe what Gilbert was going through. I just love this movie cuz its so different and deep. You really feel like you’re a part of the family.
Million Dollar Baby: It’s real, it’s sad, it’s perfect.
Forrest Gump: i love watching forrest in different parts of history, no plot but has a point. it has you laughing and crying.

My favorite movie of all time is Titanic..it’s not only your classic Romeo and Juliet story, but it shows the emotions of humans during a sad time in history. It’s just sooo good and I cry every single time I watch it…which is over like, a hundred. Plus, Leo DiCaprio is SO hot in this and Kate Winslet is absolutely stunning. :] I also like King Kong (2005) because the special effects are fabulous and it’s just so fun to watch. Other favorites of mine are: Little Miss Sunshine, Million Dollar Baby, and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

Well I have to agree with the 2 listed below me the Sting and Titanic are 1 and 1A for me but to add to that The Best Years of Our Lives is 1B.

All 3 great movies for different reasons. I managed a theatre that had Titanic from December from April and I never tired of it

The best on-screen portrayal of a man not conforming to the ways of society and the system. He (Jack Nicholson) was the shepard trying to lead his new flock of sheep in a new direction, a place where the didn’t have to be “crazy” and they could just be normal for the first time. one of my favorite film heroes.

Brando & Pacino - case closed!!

for the story telling. its has no plot, but it has a point. the special effects are unnoticeable in all the edited historical footage. the music drives the movie well. not a single wasted frame.

GWTW is the model for every epic, romance or human condition flim. The spectacle, acting, music and pure movie magic have never been surpassed.

Mag.7 has human interaction, pathos, good acting, fantastic music and scenery. More than a western - a great movie experience.

Zulu is a spectacular presentation of the human spirit. Great photography and music wrap the good acting and inspiring story in a mesmerizing event. With all the world attacking english/american values, this film is a shot in the arm for our image.

SIMPLY IT’S GREAT.IT’S ACTING IS UNBELIEVABLE.

The smartest script, the strongest performance(s), and the most creative directing ever…There has never been a movie like that. And there never will be…

The acting, the direction, the script, the sets, the costumes, and the music, the MAGNIFICENT MUSIC . . . WOW!

This film is absolutely spectacular! I cannot believe it is not on AFI’s list of 100 greatest films. The acting is suberb, directing is fabulous and the cinematography is top-notch. This film will make you laugh, cry, and open you eyes to…look closer.

This is the best written, dialogue driven film ever made. I depends entirely on smart dialogue and nothing else. No trick etc.

I am very disappointed that Amadeus is not on the AFI top 100 list. In 1985 it was the most popular film in history of the world. Sadly, people today are not connecting with the genius of this film.

One of the brilliant scenes occurs at the beginning when the young priest visits Solieri in the asylum and says, “all men are created equal in the eyes of God.” And Solieri replys, “Are they?” with subtle contempt for the lack of understanding this young priest has for reality. This example of sublime foreshadowing demonstrates the subtle beauty of this film. This understated elegance melds with the glorious music.

Another example of this subtle direction is during the gate scene. Near the end of the story, the funeral of Mozart begins with his Lacrymosa from the death Mass. As this music is playing in the background you see all of the characters walk to the gate of the city and stop, in the rain, as Mozart’s coffin rides on to the graveyard. This highly symbolic moment makes me cry everytime. This scene forces us all, as the mourners in the film, to stop at the gates of our own mediocry as true genius passes on to eternity. This is the message of the whole film told in a chilling, sad moment. As the mourners cry, and me too, we don’t cry for Mozart. We cry over the subliminal knowledge that we have been touched by greatness and we can never measure up to it.

A truly moving and humbling story. A lesson for us all. Put this film back on the Top 100 list.

I can’t understand why this not in the top 100 anymore… I have gone through 2 VHS tapes and scratched up a DVD with this movie. I was the weird kid who was in love with Mozart. Although very little of movie is true, being able to enter into minds that are artistically and dramatically different from others is outstanding. I’m mad it has been taken off the best films, it just proving to society that music and the arts are falling- and that can’t happen! What’s next in the artistic world to fall, motion pictures?!
