Julie Andrews

It had a hero & a villian. It had excitement & fun. It had fear & joy. There were tense moments & casual moments. The music was thrilling and catchy; remembered long after the movie was over.

This is a really great all around movie. The theatrical workmanship and detail is triple A1. I am sure that countless people have already used the picture’s own specially created “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” word to compliment it, so for me to also do that now would be a bit of a cliche. So I will just say it in a regular way: from cover to cover, every piece of it is very, very good.

Even more valued though is the presentation’s awesome message: parents must have and show a serious interest in their children. This message is very timely for us today where modern society has sharply degraded the importance of even having children in the first place. When people do decide to have children, they often delay it untill much latter in life, keep the number of children to just one or two, and have relatively very limited time to spend with them.

Therefore, it is really great that in the early 1960s — when these sociological trends were beginning — “Mary Poppins” came out with its message of the importance of meaningful attention to children.

This is my favorite family movie. It has a message for kids and parents alike, not to mention the great musical scenes.

This musical classic is the crowing achievement of Walt Disney. The film features everything that Disney was able to accomplish in his career. Julie Andrews is magnificent in the title roll and gives heart and soul to the story. The songs and score by the Sherman Brothers are colorful, well written, and completely entertaining. From “A Spoon Full of Sugar,” to “Feed the Birds,” the songs each possess a different theme of the story. Apart from being a cheerful children’s musical. Mary Poppins reflects the British society and politics of the early nineteen hundreds. MARY POPPINS stands incredibly well today after over forty years, as it did when it was first released in 1964. This film goes beyond a Disney classic, it will stand the test of time and will continue to improve with age.
