JAWS

The movie that changed the way we think before going into the water. Every time I watch this film it feels in a way I am watching it for the first time. It has a great combination of suspense and adventure. To this day I still think twice about going into the ocean.

BY FAR THE MOST ALL-AROUND PERFECT MODERN MOVIE. CONSIDERING
THIS FILM IS NOW 25+ YEARS OLD IT HAS EVERY THING A GOOD MOVIE
SHOULD HAVE. SUCH AS, A GREAT STORY/ADVENTURE, EXCELLENT CHAR-
ACTERS, AWESOME ACTING, AND, OF COURSE, MASTERFUL DIRECTING
BY SOMEONE WITH A VISION. ABSOULETLY TIMELESS.

Steven Speilberg is the shit!! I was so young when I saw this movie, 10 in fact. I was in Pensacola,FL where the 2nd one was filmed. My family is not wealthy at all, so Navarre Beach, The Holiday Inn was our spot. Happen to be there while filming the 2nd one, met Roy and he was nice and extremely kind!!!! JAWS #1 movie for this 41 year old, and nothing will change that……

Alabama Mama

I have not seen all of the movies on the AFI top 100, but I hope to do so.
But JAWS is on the list and it would close to number 1 along with BraveHeart which I didn’t see on the list.
JAWS affected me in so many ways, I was young when I saw it and it was a scary movie but have seen it serveral times since then and have seen how like good it is. It has everything, I realize that it is not about the shark but about the character and how htey are developed. It is truely great story telling, which I beleive is the hallmark of any grat movie you get involved in the story and become apart of it and relate to the charaters.
Nevermind the fact that I live on an island and the year I saw it I was afraid to go into the water, and when you did any sort hint of anything elso being in the water brought terror into your mind and got out of the water as quick as you could.
On another note, I am big Seven Samurai Fan and that director lead the for many great director, you see his work in most all action movie. Unfortunately he is not American.

I always used to watch this when I was young. There are other movies that I really like now but I loved this when I was a kid and it still holds up just as well now that I am older so this would have to be my alltime favorite. There are great scenes like the one on the boat when they are drinking and showing their scars, then the mood suddenly changes and Quint begins telling of his Indianapolis experience. The mood switches again and they start singing and this abrubtly ends when Jaws attacks. The scene ends with Chief clutching his trusty pistol in the dark stary night. The soundtrack also has to be one of the best of all time. You can walk into a room and without looking at the TV know exacty what movie is playing when you hear that music.

It is in my opinion a masterpiece…The acting superb, the direction flawless, the writing phenomenal…the original blockbuster…An impact to this day on people’s fear of the water and of sharks…
I could watch this a thousand times and never be tired of it. Robert Shaw’s Quint could be the best supporting role ever on screen.

i had grown up watching this film since I was born on my mom and dad’s laserdisc player. And when it broke after we played it for about ten years straight, I panicked because I would never see Jaws again. Then we get it on VHS and my life is saved and a decade later it comes on DVD with better picture and sound then ever before.

Of all the films that I have seen since my childhood, Jaws is and will always be my favorite film of all time(even though I am a hardcore Star Wars fan) not just because it is made with such a beautifully articulate and masterful flow and the music is pitch perfect(courtesy of the great John Williams), but because it was the very film that made me realize what I wanted to be…I wanted to be the next Steven Spielberg.

So good you don’t need the shark!

Jaws is one of those movies that went beyond being a hit and seemingly forever altered public attitudes. People who haven’t even seen the movie know the music, know the imagery. It absolutely changed the way our society looks at sharks, oceans, swimming.

What I love about it is that it works so well as a horror/adventure thriller and if that’s all you want, it’s simply the best one out there. But beyond that it is a real story with defined characters, complex relationships, and emotional depth. Pretty much every imitator since Jaws has missed this mark completely. There are so many great character moments that I actually think that it could almost work as a great movie WITHOUT THE SHARK! Heck, it might even make a good play!

“You’re gonna need a bigger boat”

This movie has it alla great cast with great chemistry. A great script, great photography and a great white shark. It’s scary, suspenseful, funny, heartwarming, and action packed and most of all entertaining. And it’s believable. The perfect film.

I see it as a landmark in modern horror movies…

The first time I saw Jaws was about 8 or 9 years ago. It scared me stupid in ways I had not previously been scared before. I see it as a landmark in modern horror movies, and also because it made Steven Spielberg the director he is today. The idea of the shark not being projected on screen as much as expected is genius, and has influenced many great modern horror movies to do the same (i.e. The Blair Witch Project [1999]). Because of this movie, I refuse to swim in oceans, lakes, or rivers.

Shark eats people. People act irresponsibly. Shark eats more people. Three unlikely heroes go off to face the beast.

Jaws was the first movie to captivate me. I’d watch it every chance I could as a child. As I grew up and learned to appreciate film and acting, I noticed the perfection in the performances between Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider. The intensity never subsides for the last 45 minutes. It’s inspired. This plus the inventiveness of Steven Spielberg’s direction with all the technical issues they suffered through shows the spirit of traditional American spirit. Succeeding in the face of adversity.

The biggest blockbuster of all, and unlike those that followed, its actually good.

I just turned 11 years old in the summer of 1975, I begged my parents to let me see it. After 3 months they finally caved. I bought my older brother the tickets, and after it was over I never saw another Disney movie. Brilliant film.

Steven Spielberg’s best movie to date.

Steven Spielbergs best movie to date. A flawlessly casted and acted movie that genuinely terrified the nation.
