GONE WITH THE WIND

This movie has stood up against all competition since 1939. It is typically in the top ten movies of every age group even today. Ask yourself what movie o would sit through any of its competition for as long as this great classic. The movie has every element that one could ask for in a motion picture (e.g. action, romance, intrigue, and great acting). Watching the greatest actor that ever lived, Clark Gable, play the dashing but very human Rhett Butler also secures this as the greatest movie. Every person I have ever known (in my 61 years on earth) constantly wonders when Mr. Gable would be in the next scene while watching this classic. I take nothing from the great acting of Vivien Leigh, Hattie McDonald, Olivia Dehavland, Leslie Howard and the rest of the superb cast but it was Gable’s performance that brought the audience back to this movie year after year (even to the silver screen at least four times) while others which have been wrongly (in my opinion) rated higher never could make that claim. It is easy rate movies as greater work of art but it is durability which mark a movies greatness and none has stood up to Gone With the Wind.

Esta es la mas maravillosa pelicula filmada de todos los tiempos .La he visto mas de 10 veces y aun le encuentro detalles. Yo soy un hombre de 70 anos de edad. Y aun me sigue gustando.

sImply the best movie ever produced for the public, Hollywood will be hard pressed to ever beat this film. My GOSH, i get losted in this movie. Imagination runs wild, who am i in this movie? Love it, Love it Love it. Thanks,

It is the perfect combination of drama and charming humor. I love the changing dynamic between Scarlet O’Hara and Rhett Butler and the parts are played superbly. The individual shots are beautiful. Also, the music is excellent. Tara’s Theme, written by Max Steiner is in my opinion the most moving movie theme ever written, and it is by the virtual father of movie music.

It is the greatest production of all time. The genius of David O. Selznick, the perfect cast, supporting players, production crew, special effects before the advent of computers and digital age. Simply the best of the best, almost seventy years since its release, GWTW still reigns supreme!

I absolutley love this movie, everytime it is on tv, i watch it. For the time period that it was made in, they did a fantastic job.

I know it is wrong to like this movie, but I looooooooooove this movie. I teen to watch it every chance I get and have even got friends and family who have never seen it to enjoy what I see. Everyone should experience the masterpiece that is GONE WITH THE WIND

This one isn’t a simple movie, we could call him “The movie of movies” and it’s not in vain. Is pure magic and gold.

Eddie S. Shining.

I first saw “Gone With the Wind” when my parents took me around 1959. I was awestruck by the entire film. Vivian Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara is still probably the most beautiful woman I have ever seen on film. Rhett Butler was all the gallantry that I thought men should have. I was a history major during my undergraduate years; the Civil War is still my favorite era. As much as I have always loved the movie, I must say that the book is even better. Still, owning a copy of the film makes me extremely happy.

GWTW is the best movie of all time. It’s such a great love story, as well as being an epic of one of my favorite eras of American history.

A absolute thoroughly historical, romantic movie classic.

It is very beautiful and the first film I’ve seen full being a child… Awesome…

this movie is undescribeable; just aint got no words for it! Beautiful!

The novel is so much better I think

I know it seems like a cliche, but GWTW is still my favorite movie. Every so often, I mentally review my favorite movies, and I still have to put this one at #1, because it’s a great love story, the characters are terrific, it’s a visually beautiful film, and it has sheer staying power! (I agree with the above blogger regarding Citizen Kane. I just don’t see the appeal of that movie. I thought it was really boring!)

Here are some of my other favorites:

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Braveheart
Gladiator
Jaws
Stand and Deliver
The Godfather
Schindler’s List
Rear Window
Shawshank Redemption
His Girl Friday
It Happened One Night
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The African Queen
Goodfellas
Bull Durham
Apollo 13
Mulan
ET The Extra-Terrestrial
On the Waterfront
Out of Africa
Nothing in Common
10 Things I Hate About You
The Untouchables
Rear Window
Fargo

Well everything is perfect in this film: the acting, the effects, the directing, the dialogue. Great.

“Gone with the Wind” has everything you could want in a epic film.Love, war, happiness, tragedy, comedy, complex characters,a heartbreaking love story.Vivian Leigh and Clark Gable have the ultimate chemistry onscreen.Playfulness and sex appeal radiate from both of them. The end leaves you sad but hopeful because “After all, tomorrow is another day”.

It’s the perfect movie for every mood you are in.

In todays movies, filmmakers use computer graphics to achieve any effect they wish. But, somehow they never really fool the viewers eye.

In GWTW, they painted the ground when needed. But what always amazes me is the paintings that were layered over the frames to achieve a seamless effect. No one ever believes me when I tell them that certain scenes had no ceilings at all. Those were painted in later.
Adding that to the costumes, the acting, the task of reducing such a long book into a movie. I’m amazed every time I see this movie.

I’ve seen Citizen Kane. I’ll never understand how it continues to rank as number 1 with so many film fans.

This has everything: love, war, the passing of a gentile era, chivalry, passion, loyalty, betrayal, I could go on & on. My favorite since age 12. Never goes out of style, a classic–memorable lines, unforgettable characters, suspense, drama, gayety. The world needs Rhett and Scarlett in every generation!

It was an excellant movie base on one of the best writen historical novels in the last 100 years.

THE SURROUNDINGS OF THE STORY AND WHAT WAS ACCOMPLISH DURING HARD TIMES. THE WILL TO SURVIVE AND TO HAVE EVERYTHING AND BE TAKING AWAY THEN HAVE THE WILL TO TO START OVER. THE STRENGHT AND HONOR.

Great love story Also the movie has a little bit of everything in it

GWTW is the model for every epic, romance or human condition flim. The spectacle, acting, music and pure movie magic have never been surpassed.

Mag.7 has human interaction, pathos, good acting, fantastic music and scenery. More than a western - a great movie experience.

Zulu is a spectacular presentation of the human spirit. Great photography and music wrap the good acting and inspiring story in a mesmerizing event. With all the world attacking english/american values, this film is a shot in the arm for our image.

This has been my favorite movie since I was 12…20 some years ago. It’s one that I never get sick of watching. I have a lot of “almost favorites”, but this one is always at the top of the list.

I remember stories from my grandparents of the days like GWTW, and every time I watch the movie it brings me closer to the memories of my grandparents.

Since about 2,000 of us took the time to visit this site and vote, I thought it would be interesting to see what film got the most votes. After all, almost only movie buffs visit this site, just as valid as the “official” poll in which people like Bush and Clinton voted. As of 6/26/07, I did my best to count. AFI made it difficult by refusing to compile this list despite repeated requests from many of us, and by allowing multiple votes for the same film by the same person. Trying to eliminate those, one vote per person, here is the approximate finish:

Welcome to the true cinematic experience…the way it was meant to be done.

I first saw this movie around midnight with my grandmother. We were sitting on her couch in her living room, and I couldn’t turn away. It was captivating with all the twist and turns in the plot. At the end of the movie, after everything had gone up in smoke, you’d think that Scarlett and Rhett would finally be together after what they had been through; But the fact that he “doesn’t give a damn”, it just about broke my heart. But like she said at the end of the movie, to which I believe myself, “after all, tomorrow’s just another day”.

It is just so grand and spectacular a movie and it never gets old.

The most beloved film of all time–A CLASSIC. It has comedy, sadness, love, hate, etc. Clark Gable should have won the academy award for his “Rhet Butler”. He was outstanding and easily matched Vivian Leigh’s performance. This film will always be # 1 in my mind. The other nine movies in the top ten are excellent but none can match GONE WITH THE WIND.
