It was the first comedy that also welcomed in special effects. The marriage of the two still holds up today. In an age where special effects are almost comical themselves, due to an over reliance on computers, it’s nice to go back to the original Star Wars, ET, or a Back TO The Future. Let’s face it, actually blowing the model up looks a lot more real than computer generated objects, and Michael J. Fox is the perfect anti-hero almost every guy can identify with. I’m a little biased, because I grew up in the 80’s and graduated high school in 86, so watching this film is like going back in time for at least a couple hours, but it should definately be in the top 100 films.

I was 10 years old and Alex P. Keaton was my #1 heartthrob. My mother approved of this movie and took me to see him on the big screen. Everything about this movie touched my ten year old heart — M.J.F., of course; Christopher Lloyd, although previously unknown to me, was particularly well-suited for his goofy role and reminded me a bit of my scientific dad; George McFly, the underdog, who got my sympathy as underdogs always do with me; Thomas Wilson, who personally replied to my fan email years later and was super nice; but most of all, the character that clinched this movie as my sentimental fav of all time — the DeLorean. If anyone rich out there wants to buy me one or give me theirs, please reply to this post! My dream car is a DeLorean; in the meantime I settle for a Toyota truck (Marty’s own dream car). Maybe one day, I’ll be able to realize my dream of clocking 88 mph in my very own DMC. After all, as Doc’s always saying, if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.

Back to the Future
Mon 24 Sep 2007
It is not the best movie ever, but it is by far my favorite. Reason for its success is behind its amazing script. There is no detail forgotten. And the production team did an outstanding job with the sets and locations. It is a timeless classic that you will watch over and over again.

The very first BTTF is my favorite movie. Maybe not the best movie in the world, but so easy to watch, yet so very entertaining. Whenever my girlfriend goes out of town on a weekend, a fun Saturday night for me is to crack a few cold ones and pop in BTTF, sit back, and enjoy. It’s like being in a welcoming place with familiar friends for 2 hours. Such good entertainment.

Back to the future by far is one of the greatest films of all time. Aside from being so entertaining, it also has a profound message. If you think about it Marty came from a home where Mom was an alcoholic and Dad was a loser. We learn that Mom fell in love with Dad out of Pity when she brought him in after a car had hit him. But when Marty interferes with this meeting, Mom is now in love with him. When Marty finally fixes the problem, Dad ends up punching Biff out and rescuing Mom. Now she’s in love with him because of his courages act (a major difference then loving out of Pity. When Marty returns to the present time, Life is now better. His parents are now successful and in love. It goes to show you how one courages act can have a positive effect in your life.

I know it’s not as awesome as many titles listed, but one thing I consider good about the movie, is the ease of watching the movie again and again. It has been 22 years since the first chapter, and it’s still like the first time to me and I know many people too.

I’ve seen hundreds of movies including the 100 best according to AFI, and while I’ll admit that BTTF may not be the greatest film of all time, it most certainly is my favorite. If you take in the whole trilogy, just watching how every scene is played out again and again just transposed to another generation with its on flair. Nevermind the chemistry with the actors, it certainly deserves a look or two this time around the list. And to think, it could have been in a refrigerator.

It mashes all sorts of genres.
It mashes all sorts of genres (sci-fi, fantasy, action, drama, comedy, romance and if you get into the whole trilogy Western and period-piece) and does it all extremely well, I can enjoy this movie over and over again because of the charming actors and subtle and not-so-subtle jokes. In terms of pure entertainment it’s great, Scott.

One of the greatest entertainment movies ever made.
This is the movie I have seen the most. 1985 was a good year at the movies but according to the AFI nominee ballot 1939 and 1942 where the best years yet at the movies. Out of the 400 movies nominated, 22 movies were from those two years, 11 each year. I you include 1940 and 1941 you get a total of 37 movies that are nominated as the top 100 movies. The 40?, 70? and 80? where great decades. 42% of the 400 movies came from those 30 years.

It’s the epitome of the fun, popcorn adventure movie; every shot, every line, every delivery, every music cue, and on and on and on– it’s the perfect template for the genre and films in general.
For one thing, I never owned it on video until its 2002 DVD release, so I could only watch it on television, and I only saw parts of it because I was too young to have long-term control over the remote (not to mention it was usually the basic cable edit, which is like ordering a burger at a steakhouse), so when I finally did watch it as a whole from start to finish, I had every scene analyzed and committed to memory. And it still rocked.
