What is your favorite movie?

Is there something like “sensitive” movie? After seeing American Beauty, I really believe so. I could name tens of other movies that I consider to be great. Like The Godfather, Scarface and …And Justice For All from the filmography of acting God Al Pacino. I could rave about Taxi Driver and Casino done by mr. Scorsese, mention movies like Singin’ in the Rain, Blade Runner, K-PAX, One Flew Over Cuckoo’s Nest, Crash, Donnie Darko, The Big Lebowski, The Fisher King, Platoon, Schindler’s List, Dead Poet’s Society… Never eough. Choosing one of them is the hardest task ever and I do so. Why American Beauty? Because it is a movie which you will never forget, which you will never stop seeing in the real life. It is a movie which changes your psyche in a moment. There is so much beauty in the world…

I’ve watched this movie 20+ times, and it just never gets old or tired for me. Annette Bening’s performance is incredible in all of it’s truth, subtlety, humor and pain. The score is one of my favorite of all time. Mena Suvari is perfect in this movie, as well. Her best performance to date. Chris Cooper, Kevin Spacey, Thora Birch, Wes Bentley and Allison Janney give incredible performances.
The story is well-written and perfectly executed. I haven’t been moved by a movie as much as I was by American Beauty. And still am.

It’s just great! Look closer… and live your life to the fullest because, in the end, we only live once.

Drama, Romance, Action, Comedy……….Powerful Message. It has it all

The fact that ‘American Beauty’ is not on AFI’s 100 list comfirms that it is the most underated movie of all time, or at least in my eyes. This intoxicating piece of work isn’t just great it is perfect. In it are two of the strongest performances in cinimatic history, period. A film that not only preaches beauty in all its forms but shows it with every heartbreaking scene. I would like to say that i dont cry very often and even less often for a movie, but ‘American Beauty’ is able to do that with a virtually normal scene. When that bag is floating around and being described as beautiful you dont just take their word for it, you feel it. Many movies like to say that they can make you laugh and make you cry but this one does that in abundance with every gutwrenching twist and turn until you are drained of all the emotion that you entered with, and thats a good thing. ‘American Beauty’ is in my top 5 of all time and is probably number one if i sat down and really thought it out.(do you think i said beauty enough for you to get the point)

no question this movie should be on the list

This film is absolutely spectacular! I cannot believe it is not on AFI’s list of 100 greatest films. The acting is suberb, directing is fabulous and the cinematography is top-notch. This film will make you laugh, cry, and open you eyes to…look closer.

I can’t believe it is not in the AFI list. Its a highly remarkable movie. Its about a middle age man in the suburbians of America. He struggles with issues such as marriage and raising a kid who is a teenage daughter. Lester Burnham is played outstanding by Kevin Spacey. Who is alsof my favorite actor of all time. This movie won 5 oscars. If you get the chance to see it do it, and if you dont get the chance make sure you’ll see it one day.

Ok…. loved everything about this film, but well,………….Annette Bening was incredible!! I think this is one of the most deserved Oscar performances since Meryl Streep in Sophie’s Choice…. but way….. SHE DIDN”T WIN!!!! What was the Academy thinking!! Hilary Swank was great in Boys Don’t Cry….. but I remember nothing except she played a boy pretty good…… but the memories of Bening in AB are many!!! The melt down scene where she’s cleaning the house for sale, the embarrassment when introducing her husband at a business party, and the amazing scene of her standing in the doorway when Lester tells her he bought a new car!! This movie is an awesome example of why I love movies!
Oh yea…………..and then there’s Bening!

Without a single doubt in my mind, I think “American Beauty” is the greatest film ever made. And that’s pretty hard to say. I know there are literally hundreds to choose from but no other film does it like “American Beauty.”

How could anyone come up with one favorite movie. I more than the above to go a top of the heap list. I love movies for many reasons. The Pianist is a emotionally powerful work with one of the great acting performances of all time.

American Beauty is funny, hypnotic, lyrical, beautifully photagraphed, great writing, acting………. Great Story telling. Hip.

Godfather I & II all of the above and insightful.

Bulworth: I movie I never tire of watching. It is hillarious……..

Thunder Road….. Robert Mitchum

The Hustler……. Again great cinematography, acting.
Solyaris: But if I had to pick my greatest movie it would probably be Solyaris. A beautiful film that is the most affective film I’ve seen that paints a picture of transcendence and creation.

Just one comment about a movie lot’s of people love and I send to the bottom of my list. Namely 12 Angry Men. Thought this movie was God awful. It does not put you in the room in the sense that you could make a decision on the fate of the person being judged. The evidence used to walk you to this jury’s conclusion was non-existent.

Quite simply, American Beauty has the finest script ever filmed. It’s quirky, fun, emotional, and for lack of a better word, beautifully subtle and simplistic. The words resonate with layers of subtext and the powerful history comes forth through the great characters. Mendes’ amazing direction and Conrad Hall’s cinematography created a fantastic look for the film but, for me it was the script that makes this a great film.

For me this is the best. Why? Well, it has an exelent cast and some of the best performances of the last years, the script is so witty and poignant, everithing in the production is gorgeous, the music, the sets, the photography, everything. It is a dark comedy with a very black humor, but at the same time it is touching. By the end you are so involved with the characters that you live the movie with them. And what an ending, I recall being in the cinema understanding the message from Lester and being unable to move from my seat. Everithing is beautiful.

From the moment the percussion instruments play…and the camera swoops down over the suburb, I knew this was about the urban jungle…love that movie.

The actors, the direction, the cinematography… Just a beautiful film all around.

It has everything a great movie should have! Amazing actors, an amazing screenplay, stunning cinematography, a terrific director… I could go on and on.

Everything about this movie was great. Great acting, great script, great photography… Just great! I never get tired of watching it again and again.

“American Beauty” Is my favorite film because it illustrates the crazy things that happen in life. It teaches you to love your life, no matter how dull it may seem. It tells you to take chances and make mistakes. The Cinematography is stunning and the acting is fantastic. I truely love this film.

Numerous times in the past I’ve been asked the question, “What’s your favorite movie of all time?” When I think about this question, of course the most obvious classics such as “Casablanca” and “Citizen Cane” come to mind. However, my selection for the greatest movie of all time is easily the 1999 Oscar winner for Best Picture, “American Beauty.”
This is a film that captured me like no other movie ever has. It is a dramatic, hilarious, exciting, dark, true, and wise film. The vivid director, Sam Mendes, and screenwriter Alan Ball together concocted a remarkable film that is in everyway a masterpiece. The first-rate acting ensemble, which includes Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening, created an unforgettable cast of characters. The film crafts characters that are in everyway true and unique. American Beauty reveals to the audience that true beauty does indeed exist. Whether it is found in a golden cheerleader or a plastic bag, beauty is present in the world. The film also begins and ends with quite possibly the greatest monologue ever written. American Beauty is quite simply a beauty itself.

A Master Piece!!!

This Movie places in context everything we laugh about in Talk Shows, in a way that actually reveals the hunger under which most of society lives behind the wonderfull world of appearences in the American Suburbs, and turns it into it’s head to show us the Beauty that still beholds our world in spite of how empty it might seem at times.
