ALIENS

Aliens is a fantastic movie, period. For what it is, the movie excels. It’s a sci-fi/horror/action movie and it delivers on all three counts. The creatures are horrific, the environments are deliciously futuristic in appearance, and the action is fast paced and exiting. For a movie that’s over 20 years old, almost every visual aspect of the film is convincing, save for some black lines on a miniature spaceship. Though the movie manages to stand tall in each of its three major genre categories, this is not why the movie remains truly great. Any sci-fi movie can have outstanding effects, but might be lacking in other departments. Aliens is a truly great movie because it can appeal to all audiences with its example of fantastic film-making. It is a great movie on its own merits. James Cameron had outdone himself in his writing of the story, which is captivating; a great continuation of the original. With an excellent story written comes great characters. Though Sigourney Weaver does an excellent job in her return to Ripley from Ridley Scott’s ALIEN, it’s the supporting characters that make the movie entertaining. Bill Paxton comes to mind as the memorable Private Hudson who serves as the largest source for comic relief throughout his time in the movie. At a running time of over two and a half hours, Cameron creates a thrill ride. Think about movies now a days. This is nearly impossible to achieve in this day and age. People won’t sit for over two hours. I guarantee that this movie will have any new viewer on the edge of their seat from start to finish. It is pure and simply a masterfully crafted film, and my favorite one at that.

The first sequel I ever saw that was better than the first. The mother load factor made it more than sci-fi. It gave an insite of how strong women are when it comes to their children. It was empowering. Ther is nothing worse than a woman scorned.

Where is AFI on this one? They put the first one on the ballot of 400, but not this one? By far my favorite movie. Bill Paxton unquestionably gives the most realistic and most memorable performance ever by anyone as Hudson. I know Alien was a great movie, but one of the few for a sequel to out perform the original. AFI and many seem to put Bill Paxton and Aliens down as the most unrated and disrespected combination out there.

Two of the finest sci-fi movies ever! I really like how good both were yet could not be further apart as far as style of movies.

I am a fan of James Cameron films and any good film that showcases a strong female lead character that still manages to maintain her authenticity as a woman.

Cameron allowed Sigourney Weaver to shine in this film, similar to Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2. And the supporting cast was both believable and enjoyable.

With the exception of James Cameron’s own Terminator 2, science fiction has only gone down hill since. Forget The Matrix Trilogy. I dare say, forget the Lord of The Rings Trilogy. And, give me a break, forget the recent amateur 2nd Star Wars Trilogy. Aliens is one of the few best films for great science fiction.

Starring Sigourney Weaver, Carrie Henn, Paul Reiser, Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, and Jenette Goldstein, this is still the best of the Alien series. Truly one of the greatest films ever made. I’m shocked it wasn’t listed on AFI’s ballot.
