Al Pacino

it gets my vote also. when it first came out, i was married to an italian, who actually wanted to be in the “mob”. god. good thing we live in texas and not new york or it would probably have happened. i just love the movie. i like all the actors and the idea of coming to america, a place that was to be a new beginning for all the immigrants. many of the italian customs bring back precious memories to me of my beloved extended italian family. even though i am no longer in that family, i still love this movie and watch it every time it is on tv!

I LOVE ALL THE DITAILS OF THIS MOVEI.
I BELIEVE THAT THIS FILM IS ONE OF THE HERITAGE OF THE WORLD.
THANK YOU ” AL PACHINO ” FOR CREATE THIS MEMORIAL FILM .
MY NAME IS Miss.AIDA P.R.L

For the genre, this without a doubt has got to be one of the best if not the best. A book written by C.S. Lewis almost 30 years earlier created some legal issues around this movie, but all that aside, this movie is one of those movies that does an excellent job of portraying so much of WHAT has brought Western society to the low ebb it currently is suffering from, especially here in the USA and WHY. This is not to say Europe is any better, matter of fact, Europe in many ways is much worse. This movie is much like a well orchestrated symphony. It graphically crescendos to a penultimate finale through Pacino’s incredible soliloquy at the end when ultimately good triumphs……..at least this time.

The Godfather is THE American epic film of the late 20th century. The gangster movie, after all, is one of a handful of distinctly American genres (along with the Western and film noir). Moreover, the movie powerfully dramatizes the cynicism of Vietnam-era America, as the power wielded brutally by the Corleone family is juxtaposed with the equally brutal and equally corrupt power wielded less visibly by “official” organizations, like the American government. “Who’s being naive, Kay?”

Aside from the political themes, though, the first two Godfather films are beautifully shot and richly scripted, and the acting and directing are superb.

It’s rare that every element that makes up a good movie — vivid characters, a compelling storyline, great cinematography, memorable music score, a redemptive conclusion — is contained in one movie. I haven’t even mentioned casting, which at the time introduced relatively unknown actors — DeNiro, Pacino, Duvall, etc — and mixed in a classic performance by an extremely well known Marlon Brando.

Al Pacino. Why else?

its a great movie with a great ending

The story is great, the acting is superb, you have Marlon Brando and Al Pacino in the cast, what more do you want?

IT HAD EVERYTHING YOU WANT IN A MOVIE IT KEEPS YOUR INTEREST
IN THE WHOLE MOVE ALL THE CAST WAS GREAT

Brando & Pacino - case closed!!

It is just so… awesome. When you watch it, you have to watch it again right away.

Brilliant movie, excellent case mainly too Al Pacino. Brilliant creation and words: “Say hello to my little friend!”, which on always be in my member. However, beautiful climate of 80th years has fascinated me most. I advice all this movie, there is classic and each should know this!

SIMPLY IT’S GREAT.IT’S ACTING IS UNBELIEVABLE.

How could anyone come up with one favorite movie. I more than the above to go a top of the heap list. I love movies for many reasons. The Pianist is a emotionally powerful work with one of the great acting performances of all time.

American Beauty is funny, hypnotic, lyrical, beautifully photagraphed, great writing, acting………. Great Story telling. Hip.

Godfather I & II all of the above and insightful.

Bulworth: I movie I never tire of watching. It is hillarious……..

Thunder Road….. Robert Mitchum

The Hustler……. Again great cinematography, acting.
Solyaris: But if I had to pick my greatest movie it would probably be Solyaris. A beautiful film that is the most affective film I’ve seen that paints a picture of transcendence and creation.

Just one comment about a movie lot’s of people love and I send to the bottom of my list. Namely 12 Angry Men. Thought this movie was God awful. It does not put you in the room in the sense that you could make a decision on the fate of the person being judged. The evidence used to walk you to this jury’s conclusion was non-existent.

The family values in the movie are really important to me, and it should be important to everyone because we no longer have those family values. Thats what makes The Godfather one of the greatest movies ever made

.This is very hard, almost a disservice to those films that I consider my top selections and all time favorites; but you’re asking for just one title.
After spending more than 5 decades watching films and savoring every frame of most of them, I always felt that I was going to select a musical or a Hitchcock film as my top movie, which was until TGF appeared in the early 70’s.
Naturally, I still consider others a remarkable legacy in filmmaking which in turn makes a decision of this nature so difficult, even painful.
Nevertheless TGF, with its warped sense of family values interspersed with their criminal lifestyle offers a grand scale spectacle in dramatic story telling. This is why each time I watch it (and I do at least a couple of times a year) I find it the complete film that I believe it is.

A legend….A mafia masterpiece..Number 1 films in my book.

This movie is it for me - the score is unbelievable - Georgio Moroder, Blondie. Pacino is so mean, but likeable, so corrupt yet so true, and his flame out at the end has to rank as the greatest in cinematic history, even if it’s a bit over the top. He’s the only guy who can remain standing after taking 100 rounds from a machine gun, but he’s Tony Montana, so he can do anything, right? You just dream it, you want it bad enough, you will get it man….

The fact that it’s about the mafia is merely incidental.

This film shows us everything we need to know about famiy, honor, duty, betrayal, fate, ambition, greed — in other words, life. The fact that it’s about the mafia is merely incidental.

THE GODFATHER

This movie is the greatest crime film ever made. Featuring an ensemble cast that played their parts beautifully, this film has had a lasting influence on American film history.

The Godfather is a great movie because the themes of the film are timless. The theme of family and the idea that family is the only thing that matters. In the words of Vito “A man who doesn’t spend time with his family can never be a real man.” Also the theme of something great being passed from one generation to the next. When the Godfather resigns he hands all of his powers over to Michael. It is now Michaels burden to bear. That theme and concept of change is present throughout the entire film, and present throughout all our lives. So we begin to connect the with characters and the story, even though we are not murdering gangsters.

The Godfather is meaningul to me because it showed me how great filmaking can get. It showed me that it doesn’t matter who the subject is, that if done right you can get the audience to feel for even the most dispicable characters. One major reason I think The Godfather is very influential is because the major characters are villains. They are ruthless gangsters and hit men, and yet we feel for them. We the audience feel bad when Santino is shot to death, or when the Don finally passes. That is meaninful to me, it gets me to care about these people. That is why I love it so much and connect with it so well is because I care who lives and dies.

The Godfather is also a flawless film. Everything about it is great: the acting, the score, the directing, and the script are all excellent. It may not be as influential as Citizen Kane, but I feel that it is just as good or even better. That is why it is my favorite movie of all time. Because it is a powerful film that is fun to watch, and it doesn’t get any better than that. Truly filmmaking at its very best. In my view how can you not like it?

Its just the Perfect movie.

Its just the Perfect movie. Marlon Brando does a terrific job and all the cast does the best job at acting i have ever seen. Great plot and dialog too.
By: Walter Snossages

It has a solid and epic screenplay and many perfectionists will tell you it is free of flaws. The cinematography appears relative to the story’s time. A gradual protagonist development unlike The Godfather Part II.

I took Italian 101 and 102 because of this film and movies made as a result of it. Second only to sports my father and I discuss this film and other gangster movies.

An excellent cast, flawlessly acted.

An excellent cast, flawlessly acted. Matter-of-fact, there doesn’t seem to be a flaw in the whole movie. Marlon Brando gives you the performance of a lifetime as the great Don Corleone. Al Pacino seems to be perfect for the part of his son and heir apparent to the acting throne. James Caan was never and has never been better. Rober Duvall, the superb character actor, is stunning. Diane Keaton, Talia Shire, John Cazale are all playing some of their best roles and are catapulted into acting history with this movie. Wonderful screenplay, superb directing, riveting music- if you haven’t seen it, watch it- I’m making you an offer you can’t refuse.
