Adventure

Ben Hur is one of my fave movies of all time. It’s so sad to hear about the movie drop down to 100 in the afi 10th anniversary. i think it should be in the top ten movies in 100 years 100 movies. The racing scene just very exciting.William Wyler created everything based on the accurate deatils of the bible. Everything was exquite. It’s the best movie of Charlton Heston. William Wyler one of the best directors in hollywood. He’s a master!

This movie have absolutely everything that a movie could ever have. It has great action, war scenes, amazing cinematography, good acting, love scenes, scary scenes, and comic relief. Its practically every genre you can think of, packed into a feature length film. This is probably the greatest book to movie trasition in Hollywoods history. It was a good four hours long, but it was completely worth it. the movie kept me entertained from begining to end, and it was,in my honest opinion, the greatest directorial achievement in American history. Kudos to Peter Jackson for making the greatest movie in the history of mankind.

This is just a very imaginative movie, with great action, action-packed, and simply not a dull moment.

My favorite movie of all time is “The Lion King” because it’s a great family movie that will last for generations, and the music is catchy and fun. Hakuna Matata!

I think this movie had it all. Great acting, directing, and script (based on the great novel by J.R.R. Tolkien). I also think it set a new standard for epic movies, the use of special FX, and CG graphics and characters. Peter Jackson sets the bar extremely high for any other director who attempts to adapt another epic fantasy into film.

It’s an action packed SCI-FI Masterpiece based the legendary 80s toys & animated series, ya have giant transforming robots in battle & a hot girl, Megan Fox!!!

Titanic: best movie I’ve ever seen in my entire life. it’s a great movie, and as we all know the ship sinks at the end, the whole movie is very romantic because as you watch every little innocent scene between jack (leo dicaprio) and rose (kate winslet), you know time is ticking. i think it’s sad and romantic how jack tells rose to never let go of the promise to live her life at the very end and OMG i loooooove every little thing about this storyline. and leo dicaprio is very hot. and kate winslet is stunning as usual.
King Kong (2005): it has EVERYTHING!! suspense, romance, action, adventure, humor, etc. the special effects=woaaaahhh. i dont care how long the movie is, it’s just fabulous. naomi watts, adrien brody, and jack black were GREAT pretending they saw kong or a dinosaur, etc, when there was nothing actually there as they were filming. and yes, i did cry at the end.every time i watch it, i get teary eyed. i think naomi watts should have been nominated for an oscar for playing ann darrow. peter jackson made a GREAT remake.
Little Miss Sunshine: probably one of the best movies in 2006. it’s hilarious. i love how a little indie movie made it as a nominee for best picture at the oscars!!! :] its a spectacular movie of how a little girl from a dysfunctional family shows everyone what it really means to win. and you gotta love abigail breslin dancing to superfreak!!! lms has a great choice of actors and a wonderful screenplay!!!!!!!!! I love this movie! soo different, what other movie have you seen with a dysfunctional family pushing a yellow bus? GOTTA LOVE IT!!
What’s Eating Gilbert Grape: Leo DiCaprio blew me out of the water. He was that good as playing mentally challenged Arnie. Johnny Depp was great too. He was going through a really tough time and made me believe what Gilbert was going through. I just love this movie cuz its so different and deep. You really feel like you’re a part of the family.
Million Dollar Baby: It’s real, it’s sad, it’s perfect.
Forrest Gump: i love watching forrest in different parts of history, no plot but has a point. it has you laughing and crying.

My favorite movie of all time is Titanic..it’s not only your classic Romeo and Juliet story, but it shows the emotions of humans during a sad time in history. It’s just sooo good and I cry every single time I watch it…which is over like, a hundred. Plus, Leo DiCaprio is SO hot in this and Kate Winslet is absolutely stunning. :] I also like King Kong (2005) because the special effects are fabulous and it’s just so fun to watch. Other favorites of mine are: Little Miss Sunshine, Million Dollar Baby, and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

Well I have to agree with the 2 listed below me the Sting and Titanic are 1 and 1A for me but to add to that The Best Years of Our Lives is 1B.

All 3 great movies for different reasons. I managed a theatre that had Titanic from December from April and I never tired of it

It is perfect in every way. Deeply meaningful. Rich in metaphor. Perfectly written and produced, well cast, excellent special effects. It’s got broad emotional range. It’s timeless. It speaks to all ages. It is everything Art is supposed to be, and there is no better movie.

By the way, I think Citizen Kane is the most wretched, boring movie ever. I can’t drag myself past the first 5 minutes. I don’t care who or what Rosebud is–it’s dreary and cumbersome and I will never forgive AFI for saying it is #1! Ugh!! Get over it!

Thanks for letting me opinionate.

if we agree lord of the rings 1 is a wonderful film we must agree this about other two film of trilogy because journey continues and many say that last installment is greatest.best fantasy film with a marvellous story

What I love most about these movies is that they brought backk to life a genre of film that had been lost but then also reinvented it. Johnny Depp created in Jack Sparrow one of those legendary characters that crosses boundaries, a character we all will remember for years to come. These movies also have one more very important element..FUN, they brought back fun and adventure to the industry.

These movies unique, exciting, and offer a variety of entertainment: comedy, action and romance.

The first pirate blew me away. Johnny Depp was terrific as Captain Jack. Keira Knightly was also great as Elizabeth. Geoffery Rush also brought something unique and great to Barbossa that made him more than a typical villain. In the second movie I thought they made the action better and that Bill Nighty was great as Davy Jones. However, it failed to rank with the first. Yet, “At World’s End” redefined everything Pirates. I was wowed I was amazed it made me think and it was the best of the trilogy. The Lion King was my first movie ever. To this day I think that no animated movie, with the exception of the Incredibles, comes close to the greatness of the Lion King in all areas of the movie. I recently saw the Breakfast Club. It was great. I loved how it portrayed teens and stereotypes and it was one of those thought changing movies you can never forget. Little Miss Sunshine rocks. The writing, direction, and acting were great. I love the lack of chilche and how funny it is. I have watched it countless times and each time it gains new depth. And finally, the choice people are probably wondering, WTF. This is the only movie to make me cry. In my opinion, he the best writing. Everything shocked me because it was a movie I initially didn’t want to see and once I saw it, it moved me like no other film.

I am 13 years old and Raiders of the Lost Ark is positively one of the best movies I have ever seen! Action, romance, and adventure just don’t get any better than they do in this movie! John Williams score is absolutely wonderful! Ford and Allen are excellent and without a shadow of a doubt two of the best leading characters (along with Vivian Leigh and Clark Gable in GWTW) in film history. Just a great story and one of the most fun movies to ever watch! I wish they made them like this now adays!

Is there a more famous pair of shoes anywhere than the Ruby Slippers? Who doesn’t know the Wicked Witch, the Scarcrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Toto too? Everyone knows you ride a tornado to get to Munchkinland and who doesn’t know the Emerald City is at the end of the yellow brick road. What is Kansas more famous for? Who can’t immediately recognize the classic songs “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard”? Who never heard of a Munchkin? Where did we all learn that there is no place like home? As many great films as there are, there is no other choice.

The greatest epic ever made.

The greatest epic ever made, the kind of film that seems impossible to make anymore since it would certainly be laden with computer effects and digitally added extras, but this is the gold standard. A true cast of thousands, sets the size of real cities, and endless expanses of scenery and adventure enough for a decade of CGI wannabe epics.

A girl from Kansas learns the real meaning of belonging and fitting in, regardless of where she is or what is going on in life around her.

This was the first movie that I remember seeing, from start to finish, when broadcast on network television. The plot was easy to follow (at five years of age) and to remember. It was essential viewing for me, and my brother later on. It was because of this film that I read the original Oz stories by L. Frank Baum. This also holds special meaning for me as the movie came alive for me again in 1970, when our family got its first color television set, and the visit to Oz was just like in the book “The Wizard of Oz.”

Perfect combination of humor, style and suspense.

Having seen over ninety of AFI’s 1998 top 100, I still pick North by Northwest as my favorite for its perfect combination of humor, style and suspense. Film scholars and historians take it seriously, but it never takes itself too seriously. Hitchcock made other great films that also demonstrated his mastery of the medium, but the style and humor in this film make it my favorite.

Three of the most critically and commercially successful films (and novels) of all time. This is storytelling at it’s very best, and this world will never see anything like it ever again. There is something in these movies for everyone, every genre is present, and every cinematic fix is fulfilled. The art of moviemaking is all about telling great stories, inspiring emotion, conveying ideals, and affecting an audience. There is no film in existence today that has done this more effectively than Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is a testament to the beauty of human imagination, and is a true gift to the world.

My favourite film. loved the Indy trilogy since i was very young. it’s fun, adventurous, full of action and damn good to watch. my perfect saturday night film to watch and relax with a pizza.

Love love love love love this film.

I dont know how else to say it…and quite frankly I dont think it needs an explanation…The Lord of the Rings trilogy are the best films ever made…period….if anyone feels the need to dispute this…PLEASE DO..id love it

I know it’s cliché by now to say this; but you’re wrong, I’m not a 20 something kid that has seen every single Adam Sandler movie and uses that as a parameter.
Growing up, I was extremely interested in the history of movies, I started watching which ever I heard was a classic, and I felt sad that in my time movies had lost the grandeur of Lawrence of Arabia and the deeply-felt story of To kill a mockingbird or The Apartment.
Then, this group of people decided to make a movie they felt passionate about, with characters they cared about and putting on a show for the senses in every posible way. They came up with the Lord of the Rings Trillogy and gave back to movie making something that seemed lost in decades: passion.
You take their superb job with the art of movie making, their fantastic adaptation of the books, and you have something that rarely happens, and that, at the beginning of the cinema (and because of the technical imposibilities) the greates directors couldn’t acomplish so well: a story translated into images that will hunt you for ever, that will inspire you and make you smile as long as you shall remember them.
I see the Lord of the Rings as the paramount of what can be done with a story… if you only care for it so much so as to put all your best efforts to it.

Best. movie. ever. Just the most fun and enjoyable 2 hours of your life. can watch it over and over again and smile every time.

It’s Star Wars for a new generation. Same themes, same mythic elements, adventure and heroism. But a different, and I think richer, story and world. It’s the best example of spectacle in a medium that often reaches an artistic level but is first and foremost an entertainment. Fittingly, the story itself is older than Lucas’s masterpiece (since it’s clear that he borrowed from LOTR, as well as Joseph Campbell’s guide to all cultural mythologies, if not in star wars, certainly in willow, which was also his project). So, it’s the original while existing on screen as the new and improved. It’s perfectly casted, perfectly scored (enough to rival the brilliance of John Williams), wonderfully acted. It does require a certain suspension of disbelief, but thats what brings out the kid in you — which is the best thing about movies, I think. It’s the kind of film you can sit down and let wash right over you, or upon further viewings, dissect a bit and truly realize the brilliant layering of the story, the richness of plot and character, and the multiple levels that the narrative is working on. It’s an emotional journey that offers everything — adventure, romance, comedy, suspense, horror, beauty, spirituality and inspiration. It exists as the best kind of entertainment but also manages to scratch the surface of something that can only be described as art — which only the greatest movies can do. Watch it, and your imagination will take wing.

Lord of the Rings is the best film ever made.

Okay, now honestly I don’t see how anyone can pick one movie and say it is better than all the rest. I can see someone saying that one is better than another, though. But, if I have to pick I would say that The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring had an astounding emotional effect on me. Not only was it well written and well acted, but everything about it was for lack of a better word…perfection. Howard Shore’s score was beautiful and the cinematography was excellent. It may be the first movie to display good and evil in the sense that it did. I affected me dramatically. I do not think it is the greatest movie ever made. The only way to decide that is to have a global vote which is impossible. But if I had to pick one this is what I would like to see at number one. That or Lawrence of Arabia. But whatever…

It’s incredibly difficult to pick ONE favorite movie, but If I can choose one I’d have to say it’s the Empire Strikes Back.

Why? It’s the medular piece of the entire Star Wars saga. It has everything in it: Adventure, Romance, Hate, Darkness, Treachery, Philosophy, Mystery, Technology , Comedy andTragedy.

Luke Skywalker may very well be one of the greatest heroes ever to be captured on film. His classic mythological “Heroe’s journey” takes us along with him, makes us feel what he feels, his inner conflict. Classic storytelling.

Of course there are the Battles, of different shapes and sizes: the Epic battle of Hoth, with the behemoths of the empire on one side and and sheer ingenuity and bravery on the other. And of course the immortal lightsaber duel (The best of all the Star Wars duels) not just between Jedi and Sith, Good and Evil, but Father and Son Ying and Yang.

Within every Character there’s something interesting to discover: Han’s ego getting in the way of his duty, Lando being forced to betray friends, Darth Vader inner struggle about what to do with his son, heck even Chewbacca shows the strains of being loyal to Han and having to take care of a princess he doesn’t really get along with, because his buddy tells him to.

The romantic subplot of Leia and Han is unconventional, as is their way of expressing it. Han loves Leia, but he’s too cocky and womanizing to admit it (”I love you” “I know”) and the droids bring some sarcastic comedy relief.

This movie is timeless, and of course generations will always treasure the great memories this movie and the other episodes have brought.

I’ve seen hundreds of movies including the 100 best according to AFI, and while I’ll admit that BTTF may not be the greatest film of all time, it most certainly is my favorite. If you take in the whole trilogy, just watching how every scene is played out again and again just transposed to another generation with its on flair. Nevermind the chemistry with the actors, it certainly deserves a look or two this time around the list. And to think, it could have been in a refrigerator.

STAR WARS

Star Wars revolves around a teenage Luke Skywalker bored with his lackluster, uninteresting life, and he longs for adventure and something more important than his moisture farm. A chance encounter with two droids leads Luke into a world of adventure.

This movie resonates loud for me. I wasn’t born when it came out in 1977, however growing up it was the first movie i wrapped my arms around and embraced as my favorite. It was an adventure story at its core and it was the kind of movie I liked and my parents could enjoy as well. Now things have changed in my view of the world and films in general. Being a film major in college, my eyes were opened to the vast amount of motion pictures made and how one can view films very differently. I’ve found Star Wars to be even more significant in this regard. When it came out in 1977, American Cineam was in a drought and many people weren’t excited about movies. Star Wars brought back the excitement and wonder of going to the movie theater. It reinvigorated a dying culture and brought a whole new audience to the theaters. It also changed the way movies were made. The technologies Lucas and his crew created are still in many cases the standard used today, and its lasting effect can be seen in the film industry today. A final note about Star Wars concerns the film score and sound structure overall. This score and sfx made this movie come alive. It was one of the first movies in which the score and the sfx were as important as the characters on the screen. The music resonates deep with each theme, and going to the theater to hear the large explosions and lasers was an amazing experience, not just a casual movie outing. It may not have been the best directed or acted film in the history of Cinema, but it is one of the most influential and important films of the post-code era.
