One of the best courtroom movies since To Kill A Mockingbird

Jack Nicholson at his best.

The writing and directing are basically flawless and casting is perfect. Jack Nicholson’s performance as Colonel Jessup should be rated as one of the top ten of all time. Sorkin’s ability to create a quick paced witty dialogue throughout the movie is nothing short of legendary. With this screenplay it should have been evident that he was destined for the greatness he accomplished with The West Wing. Despite the fact that most people only remember the climactic final courtroom scene, there are many others of the upmost value. When Kaffee comes home drunk after learning about Markinson’s death, Cruise (as Kaffee) is absolutely amazing. “eeehhhhh! Time’s up! What do we have for the losers, judge? Well, for our defendants, it’s a life time at exotic Fort Leavenworth! And, for defense counsel Kaffee, that’s right, it’s a court martial! Yes, Johnny! After falsely accusing a highly decorated Marine officer of conspiracy and perjury, Lieutenant Kaffee will have a long and prosperous career teaching… typewriter maintenance at the Rocco Globbo School for Women! Thank you for playing “Should we or should we not listen to the advice of the galactically stupid!” AFI should have definitely consdier this for their top quotes list. Nevertheless, there are plenty of other great moments involving Kendrick(played by Keifer Sutherland). Kendrick represents the pure Marine mentality which is the direct opposite of Kaffee’s view on basically everything. The conflicts between characters and ideals permeate the entire film. It gives great insight into military culture and I feel leaves it up to the viewer to decide whether they side with Jessup’s view or not. This movie has everything anybody could want: drama, humor, superb acting, great direction, and an incredible script. If you don’t love this movie, stop going to theaters.

WHILE “UNFORGIVEN” WON THE OSCAR FOR BEST PICTURE THAT YEAR, EVERYONE I KNOW AGREED THE TRUE BEST PICTURE OF THE YEAR WAS “A FEW GOOD MEN.” INCREDIBLE ACTING FROM AN ENSEMBLE CAST INCLUDING TOM CRUISE, JACK NICHOLSON, DEMI MOORE, KEVIN POLLACK, KEVIN BACON, J.T.WALSH … NEED I GO ON. THE DRAMA IS SUSTAINED THROUGHOUT THE FILM WITH MANY MOMENTS LIKELY TO GIVE ONE GOOSE BUMPS. HOW THIS FILM HAS BEEN SNUBBED BY THE AFI TOP 100 LIST IS MINDBOGGLING, CONSIDERING FILMS LIKE “DO THE RIGHT THING” JOINED THIS SELECT LIST THIS YEAR.

A Few Good Men is great because it depicts a lot of wonderful aspects of our country. The beauty of our nation’s capitol, the pride and honor of serving in our military, and our undying dedication to the pursuit of justice for all of our citizens, from the Private First Class to the full bird Colonel, are all aspects beautifully woven into this thrilling drama. Every time I watch A Few Good Men the pride which led me to pursue a comission in the United States Navy is reborn and I grow prouder and prouder to be an American.

This movie rules! It has an all-star cast of Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, and the unsatoppable and great, Jack Nicholson. That famous line in the courtroom gets me every time.

This movie is without a doubt a classic.
This movie is without a doubt a classic. Tom Cruise, while making babies cry, is a genius, and I would give him the truth any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. Rob Reiner is tremendous, and without a doubt the greatest movie of all time. The only movie to give it a competition is Forrest Gump.
