Sure this was perhaps Pacinos defining role and sure it was by any standards a classic movie but to put this offering in such an illustrious position is to overstate I believe just what the material was in this offering. Firstly it completely fictionalised the notion that the Mafia are really just family lovin misunderstood victims with a strict moral code etc etc. when in fact the reality is somewhat different. It is somewhat akin to the Camelot bull…. that surrounded the Kennedy era we love to kid ourselves that what is illusion is somehow real. When did Pacino or for that matter Brando give us anything below par in their respective careers. THis was just another vehicle for them well done I give you but not in the master class I believe.
