I would have to say Rear Window is my favorite movie. However, if asked what the best movie ever made was, I would say Virtigo. Jimmy Stewert and Grace Kelly are magnificent in RW. The set of the movie is incredible (the entire thing was shot on set). The layering of so many plots is genious. Hitchcock does not get enough credit for his use of symbolism, camera, and composition as in vertigo. While I do think Virtigo is a superior film, i dont think rear window is too far off. Another thing that makes this movie stand out is the incredible dialoge, especially between Kelly and Stewert. Just for the record Virtigo would be my #2 film of all time, followed by Casablanca, The Godfather, Citizen Kane. Also the design of virtigo’s tital’s and poster by Saul Bass is landmark design. I like it so much its part of a sleeve I have started which includes an audrey hepburn portrait and alfred hitchcock sillouette. I also plan on having a jimmy stewert portrait to finish it out.
