I was shocked in 1997 and continue to be shocked ten years later that the film that established the template for virtually every action/adventure film that followed it is not in the Top 100. The Adventures Of Robin Hood remains one of the most exciting, enjoyable and beautiful looking films of the Golden Era. The 3-strip Technicolor simply can’t be beat. Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland never looked better together. Claude Rains and Basil Rathbone as Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham are villainy personified. Alan Hale, Eugene Palette, Patric Knowles, Una O’Connor, Herbert Mundin, Melville Cooper, Ian Hunter…all brilliant as supporting players. The beautiful score by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. What is there NOT to like about this film? You can watch it from start to finish and never feel bored or complacent. It is always moving along and keeping you in the story. And these are just a few of the reasons why The Adventures Of Robin Hood belongs in AFI’s Top 100 Films.

The Munchkins were prophets, when they said to Judy Garland: “From now on you’ll be history, (…) You will be a bust in the Hall of Fame”.

One of my many favorites because it captures the essence of the issues and struggles of many hispanics of that time period. Olmos is excellent in portraying this character.

PULP FICTION is a timeless classic for a few reasons. It is probably Tarentino’s best film and there really isn’t a movie quite like this. Though it has intense drug use and extream voilence, it still shows you what an indi film can do. I too am an indi film maker and I find it very difficult to even try to make a film this great. Another reason why this is a great, not even great, FANSASTIC film deserves to at least be on the first page of the top 100 is that this film brought back John Travolta’s careir. his acting careir, well, wasn’t very good untill he was in PULP FICTION. I have seen many gangster films and this one is more than that. It’s intense, sad, funny, and it shows you the differant types of people in the world.

I was 13 when I saw Raging Bull and I expected something along the lines of Rocky…boy was my expectations way off base. However, even at the age of 13 I just knew that this may be one of the greatest films ever. Initially I was shellshocked by Deniro’s portrayal of a truly insecure and repugnant man. Then over the years I came to realize what a truly beautifully acted, directed and filmed movie it is. The fight scenes are truly astonishing ( I could swear I heard animal noises dubbed into some of the fight scenes) and the television scene between Deniro and Pesci may be the best I’ve ever seen. Deniro and Pesci at their best, Scorcese at his usual best, and you cant go wrong with Thelma Shoonmaker in the editing room. What a film!

The comic genius of Mel Brooks and Co. is something to marvel at.
Count Basie in the middle of the prairie.
A whole town of Johnsons
The crew working on the railroad singing modern music
The toll gate they had to go back and get a shit load of dimes for.
The ending scenes, from Dom Deluise to the cadillac taking them away.
Hedley Lamarr
Mongo - Santa Maria
Lily von Shtupp
Mel Brooks as the Yiddish speaking Indian
The thugs lined up to invade the town - including Brooks

Steven Speilberg is the shit!! I was so young when I saw this movie, 10 in fact. I was in Pensacola,FL where the 2nd one was filmed. My family is not wealthy at all, so Navarre Beach, The Holiday Inn was our spot. Happen to be there while filming the 2nd one, met Roy and he was nice and extremely kind!!!! JAWS #1 movie for this 41 year old, and nothing will change that……

La mejor historia de amor hecha película…nunca me cansaré de verla aparte de la gran actuación de Humphrey Boggart. La canción As time goes by es también a mi criterio la mejor canción en una película.
Un verdadero clásico.

This is the best movie ever because it has great songs, story and characters that we love. We learn that everything we seek could be right with us all along. There’s no place like home…and this movie. I think I’ve seen it 100 times!

I love this Hitchocock movie thriller because I always love watching Ingrid Bergman with Cary Grant. It’s hard to say how this pair got past the censors in 1946 when they engaged in a protracted kissing scene. It was the most beautiful kissing scene I have ever seen. No kissing scene, especially today, can compare to it. It was brilliantly done. Another scene that impressed me so much was when Claude Rains introduced his new bride to his Nazi colleagues. This was a unique handkissing scene. Watching the faces of each of these men kiss Ingrid’s hand was worth the whole movie. Under Hitchcock’s brilliant direction, the camera focused only on each man’s face as he kissed Ingrid’s hand. A beautiful scene-brilliantly done! Ingrid’s performance in this was one of her bests works!

Along with Casablanca one of the two greatest love stories ever filmed.
Based on the time period and geography of it’s setting it presents a realistic and honest portrayal of two men’s desparate attempt to come to terms with their love of one another.

No, this isn’t the television series; it’s a wonderful film of an American Vietnam vet struggling to maintain his sanity in his post-war life. All-Star cast: Henry Winkler, Sally Fields and Harrison Ford.

A remarkable film that reminds us that in order to truly understand and know someone is to listen and learn about them for yourself, not through others. It shows us that understanding leads to the worst of enemies becoming the best of friends.

THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD produced (& some say directed) by
Howard Hawks is one of the first & best menacing alien films in motion
picture history. Superbly cast, written, acted, diected, edited & scored
THE THING has inspired a new generation of film makers including
John Carpenter (who made his own version in 1981) & Ridley Scott (Alien).

One of the greatest movies ever made. Any list of Top 100 Movies that does not include Patton doesn’t have much credibility.

I love movies and have been watching them all of my life! Before I saw this movie I could not tell you what my favorite movie is, but now I can proudly say that my favorite movie of all time is AMAZING GRACE! This movie is wonderfully acted and beautifully written. Ioan Grufford portrays William Wilberforce beautifully! I cried the first time I saw this movie, and the second, and the third and so on. I just saw a preview for the DVD the other day and I teared up. This movie takes hold of every emotion and doesn’t let go until it is over. When you watch this movie you will feel what the actors are feeling because they convey the emotions of their characters so well. After you watch this movie you will just want to rewind it and watch it again. Everyone should experience this movie!

In my opinion, Pulp Fiction is the best film ever made because it is the movie that ended with the biggest impact on me. It had more of an impact on me than 2001: A Space Odyssey, Raging Bull, and even Citizen Kane. It feels more important and no other film has flowed so well as it has. Even though Pulp Fiction’s characters are low life thugs, junkies, and killers; the film’s theme is redemption and every major character redeem themselves except the main character, Vincent Vega played by John Travolta. Not only is this the most important and inspirational film to me, but it has the greatest use of dialogue, acting, and cinemattography, and is why it is the best film of all time.

The writing is magnificent; easily the best dialog in any movie but the performances by Peter O’Toole and Katherine Hepburn are the best of their careers. In this movie we also witness the coming greatness of Anthony Hopkins. He is so nasty and wonderful all at the same time, it brings gooseflesh. I don’t know if “Kate” could have played this part at a younger age. She always had CHOPS but life experience led her to play it so strongly. Peter is probably the best actor ever, I think he is.I also like the fact that nothing is resolved. Things are not resolved in life, but all too often they tie them up with a pretty bow in movies at the end. It doesn’t work that way. Use this movie as the #1 teaching movie. susieh
