‘Forrest Gump’ is simply life through the eyes of a man with less than average intelligance. It is simple, much like Gump, and it doesnt try be overly dramatic or overly comedic, it just is. Tom Hanks subtle performance can be summed up in one scene: when Jenny places his hands on her breasts, and he gets a confused look and pulls away and says “i feel dizzy”. He is confused by the womans body just as much as racism, war, and love. Dont get me wrong Gump knows what is going on and what he wants, its just on a much more simple and almost animalistic level, Gump just simply reacts. I love this movie, it just might be the movie of my generation for many different reasons that would be impossible to list here. Its so important and relevant to every person(or at least every American for obvious reasons), that i wont be surprised when this one rises through AFI’s 100 list and settles near the top someday.
