There are many highly acclaimed modern-day movies that use beautifully scored music, glorious cinematography, perfect costume design, the newest most advanced sound and visual effects etc. etc. - which all wonderful ingredients… but many times the scripts and/or characters in these movies are simply sub-par. Should you yearn for great acting and wish to see a 1950’s movie that is in black & white, takes place in essentially two rooms (and strips away all the aforementioned trimmings) and thus requires only the best acting to pull it off… then take a look at “12 Angry Men”. WOW… what a great movie. The acting in this motion picture is absolutely phenomenal.
I have several other Oldie-Goldies recommendations for anyone reading this from my generation (Generation X)… Sunset Boulevard, All About Eve, It’s a Wonderful Life, North by Northwest, Double Indemnity, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Best Years of Our Lives, To Kill a Mocking Bird, High Noon and Rear Window… all of which I strongly recommend if you’ve never seen these…. they are all great movies! Though great movies… none stack-up to the acting performances in “12 Angry Men”.
