Actually, it’s not my favorite movie, but it is the best script ever written for the screen, as well as the greatest adaptation. While Lean’s sometimes melodramatic direction ages the film, it is a visual feast, carefuly crafted and meticulously edited.
A far greater film than The Searchers, which during the studio scenes were obviously directed with a yawn.
And who would argue against Julie Cristie’s rightful place as one of the greatest ingenues ever.
Put Zhivago back on the list you ninnys.
