Some might say, that this movie is not the best example of revolutionary filming techniques. And I agree. Some might even say, that due to its questionable themes it does not represent the best of American films.
And yet, it IS the longest running film in the world. To this day, the show is still being shown every week in theaters across America and even in Europe. Some of these top films, hardly anyone sees except maybe once in a couple of years if it catches their eye in a movie store or is shown on a cable movie channel. But, Rocky Horror… Now that movie always comes back during Halloween. And I notice it showing often on several stations throughout the year.
The movie is a cult classic, that if everyone is honest, has somehow been a part of their lives. Whether it was attending the midnight showing in college, watching it at halloween at a packed movie theater, or being lectured by your parents/guardians of the ‘evil’ of watching the film, ect… This movie, though maybe never on a list, has outrun each and every one of the top movies. Some movies are even out of print and we may not see for another five-ten years. But the Rocky Horror Picture Show?? It will last.
I don’t think there is another movie that gets the audience so involved as this one has. It really does have a captured audience. Whether it’s Tim Curry in drag, or the insanse soundtrack, people are drawn to this film.
Since it has been a part of our country since the 1970s, and I dare say, and important part of our pop culture history, it should make the list.
For some reason, this movie gets people up and out of their seats to do the Time Warp…Again. And again. And again. I think it is about time it gets recognized for that.
