I knew Carl Miller of Millington, TN who was in the 709th tank battalion (his tank sank before it hit the beach) who went up Omaha Beach (the opening scene in the movie). Only 5% lived in the first wave, and he was in the second wave where 50% lived. The movie made me understand his bravery to face death. As he went up the beach all he could see was death. Arms, heads, legs, and gallons of blood hit him as he went up that beach. He saw so many of his friends die. He was in over 200 days of combat during the war. Three cheers to Steven Spielberg for portraying such a scene as that. He gave me a great appreciation for people’s sacrifice and bravery.
