Such a simple film of an ordinary suburban family coping with the death of a son/brother. Timothy Hutton’s character is so incredibly developed that you can almost read his mind. Everything for him isn’t bleak as there are a few happy moments, but those are dashed when he can’t escape the guilt over losing his brother. And Mary Tyler Moore is the coldest most distant person I’ve ever seen on film. To me, the Best Actress contest between her and Sissy Spacek for “Coal Miner’s Daughter” remains the toughest to call.
