Another movie which was conspicously missing from the top 100. It has to rank as one of the most fascinating science fiction movies to ever come out. Richard Dreyfuss was amazing as one of the many common people who were mysteriously drawn to the place where the aliens landed. The scene near the end of the movie when he goes up into the ship was extremely heartwarming. I’m not saying it belonged in the top ten, but definitely in the top 100.

I agree with this viewer - I have never seen a movie that so filled me with suspense that my heart was racing madly as when that door was about to open to the space ship.

I’m sorry I couldn’t disagree more. On the first AFI 100, I couldn’t understand why ‘Encounters’ was on the list at all. I thought the movie took way too long to get to the climax, and once there, the movie ended. I would much rather see a movie that started where this one ended. A real let-down for me.
