I love The Philadelphia Story because it has all the ingredients of a perfect film. The screenplay sparkles, the leads are perfect, and the supporting players do exactly that–support. The movie is definitely old fashioned in its attitudes toward women (that may be putting it very mildly), but I am fully aware of that and don’t at all care. Katharine Hepburn is heartbreaking and hysterical as Tracy Lord. And, the two male leads–Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart–are exacting foils for her and for one another.
