This musical classic is the crowing achievement of Walt Disney. The film features everything that Disney was able to accomplish in his career. Julie Andrews is magnificent in the title roll and gives heart and soul to the story. The songs and score by the Sherman Brothers are colorful, well written, and completely entertaining. From “A Spoon Full of Sugar,” to “Feed the Birds,” the songs each possess a different theme of the story. Apart from being a cheerful children’s musical. Mary Poppins reflects the British society and politics of the early nineteen hundreds. MARY POPPINS stands incredibly well today after over forty years, as it did when it was first released in 1964. This film goes beyond a Disney classic, it will stand the test of time and will continue to improve with age.
