Like no movie yet in the history of film
Like no movie yet in the history of film, this movie told the story of those of us who did time in the spiritual prison of the closet. Ang Lee’s brilliant movie reached down in to the depths of us and pulled our story out into the light in all its beauty and pain. I will be grateful forever to this man and to the writer Annie Proulx for giving voice to a story never before told so powerfully to a mainstream audience. This film made history, and its production values, directing, and acting were so flawless it could not be dismissed in the guise of movie criticism. What a powerful mix. Also Jake Gyllenhaal has got to be the most adorable actor ever, on screen and off. (I do have my shallow side!)
