What is your favorite movie?

Starring Anjelica Houston, John Cusak and Annette Benning “The Grifters” tells the story of three con artists intertwining their ways in and around each others’ lives and as the film moves on the stakes get higher…and deadlier.

The first movie that really made me look at film for filmmaking sake, I saw it first in the summer of 1995 when I was 14. A neo-noir thriller that staves interjecting camp in light of actually telling a story, rather it is the essence of noir without the in-joking updates so prominent in most new noirs. The acting is A-one, the direction by Stephen Frears is perfect and the cinematography by Oliver Stapleton so exactly captures the sweat and grime and shodiness of the lives these lowlives lead.
