Everyone in this film is heroic.
Everyone in this film is heroic. There are no villains, only heroes. How often does one get to view a film like this? All the performances are outstanding, and the music is superb. It hasn’t gotten the attention is deserves for bringing back the epics.

Gettysburg was a good movie but was too long and could’ve been better told as a TV mini-series. (Although I did cheer when Ted Turner’s character was killed.)
The Best Civil War movie was Glory. Even though the Battle of Antietam was only briefly depicted it was a far superior filmed re-enactment of a Civil War Battle. Coupled with the story of the 54th and the (superbly filmed) battles they fought, Glory stands out as the best Civil War movie over the last 40 years. Plus it earned Denzel Washington an Oscar.
